Matt Moore Signs Minors Deal With Red Sox
1 day agoFree-agent left-handed reliever Matt Moore (forearm) signed a minor-league deal on Thursday with the Boston Red Sox that includes an invite to major-league spring training, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman. Moore missed the last month of the 2024 season due to a strained left forearm, but he's apparently past the injury and will now compete for a spot in Boston's bullpen out of spring training. The 35-year-old veteran southpaw spent last year with the Los Angeles Angels, where he had a 5.03 ERA (6.17 FIP), a 1.34 WHIP, one save, 41 strikeouts and 26 walks in 48 1/3 relief innings. While Moore should have a pretty good shot at making the team's Opening Day bullpen as a lefty arm if he's healthy this spring, he won't have much fantasy appeal in what would likely be more of a middle-relief role. Moore broke into the big leagues as a starter in 2011 but hasn't started a game since 2021.
