With two games in the Round of 16, today's showdowns are Argentina vs France and Uruguay vs Portugal. Due to the multiple games being played, lineups are back to their normal constructions. Below we bring you seven players you should consider as World Cup DFS lineup picks for Matchday 16 (on June 29th, 2018).
Not all are top-tier options, as there is a range of DFS value picks, sleepers and high-risk players mixed in.
Consider all of these players for your DFS lineups; however, at the end of the day, it is always your decision. Good luck, RotoBallers.
WC DFS Forwards to Consider
Cristiano Ronaldo - F, Portugal (DK - $11,600, FD - $13,500)
The most expensive player on the slate for today's opening Round of 16 clashes, forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been very good so far this tournament. With the exception of a missed penalty in the team's third group game, the Portuguese striker has held down the front line and bagged three goals in the process. The team is relying on him to contribute, meaning we should see some shots and potentially goals against an untested Uruguay defense.
Edinson Cavani - F, Uruguay (DK - $8,100, FD - $11,000)
On the other hand, Portugal's defensive line is not the strongest in the tournament and could be exploited by the Uruguayan duo of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani. Although he is still rather expensive on FanDuel, Cavani is a much bigger steal on DraftKings due to his very fair pricing. Cavani scored last match and could look to make it two-for-two in a game where Uruguay are slight underdogs to advance.
WC DFS Midfielders to Consider
Paul Pogba - M, France (DK - $6,700, FD - $9,000)
Pogba, and the French team, have not had the best tournament overall from a fantasy perspective. However, they still topped their group and will play against a demoralized and "lucky to advance" Argentina side. With talisman Lionel Messi underperforming so far this tournament and the rest of the Argentine side lacking quality, we could see French domination by a squad that, on paper, is the much better team. Pogba has the chance to capitalize on this draw by playing better than he did in the Group Stage, and his price on both DraftKings and FanDuel reflects his respective contribution potential on both sites based on their scoring formats.
Nahitan Nandez - M, Uruguay (DK - $3,700, FD - $5,500)
Nandez started the first match for Uruguay and has been used in the two following games as well. Although his price is a little less palatable on FanDuel, he still has the makings of a good upside option as a wide midfielder who could see involvement against a suspect defense. Look for the Boca Juniors midfielder to make the most out of whatever opportunity he is given against an overrated Portuguese defensive lineup.
WC DFS Defenders to Consider
Raphael Guerreiro - D, Portugal (DK - $4,600, FD - $4,500)
Operating as a wingback despite the fact that he has been used mostly as a midfielder by Borussia Dortmund, Raphael Guerreiro brings the offensive flair to the Portuguese left side of the pitch, even if his defensive abilities are sometimes missing. In a game that could potentially involve a few goals, it might not be the best idea to expect a clean sheet from Portugal's defenders, but the most likely one to make an offensive contribution would be Guerreiro, making him a good lineup choice today.
Nicolas Tagliafico - D, Argentina (DK - $4,100, FD - $4,500)
Once again, you are going with upside here, as Argentina are slight underdogs against a decent French side. However, Tagliafico still has significant value, especially if Argentina are able to pull off an upset. The Argentine left back is very cheaply priced and has played reasonably well throughout the past few weeks, making him a solid starting option for your team's lineups in today's slate.
WC DFS Goalies to Consider
Franco Armani - G, Argentina (DK - $4,400, FD - 4,500)
After being called in to replace the error-prone Willy Caballero, goalkeeper Franco Armani had a very good third group game. If you are banking on him to start and Argentina to perform an upset, then it looks like you will get great value for your pick. Additionally, Armani is expected to face quite a few shots as Argentina may be on the back foot for the majority of the game; if he is able to keep a clean sheet and make a few saves, you are looking at real upside with one of the cheapest starting goalkeepers in the slate.
Good luck this weekend!
