Belgium Team Breakdown
Belgium's biggest question mark is at the very tip of their attack. Currently, Romelu Lukaku is set to miss the game, meaning that Michy Batshuayi is set to start in attack. Belgium is likely to operate with a 3-4-3 formation.
Strengths: Kevin De Bruyne. I was thinking to try and find more, but really the strength of this team is in arguably the best midfielder in the world. Constantly putting forward great chances for his forwards to finish.
Weaknesses: Michy Batshuayi. He has scored some important goals, and has a decent return for Belgium overall but he isn't at the level required to win a World Cup. I have question marks over Eden Hazard too, who has struggled to make a footballing impact since moving to Real Madrid.
Canada Team Breakdown
Canada's team feels like a team that is going to be around for a little while, qualifying through CONCACAF and getting the odd result in the World Cup, but struggling on the main stage. Canada has some star players sprinkled through it, although Alphonso Davies is likely to miss this game. Canada is likely to operate with a 5-3-2 formation here.
Strengths: Pace. Belgium's team is full of good footballers, but with a number getting towards the end of their career, they are happy to play at a slower pace. Canada has plenty of players that can inject pace into the game, which could cause Belgium to struggle.
Weaknesses: Experienced heads. Playing at a World Cup is a different type of game. Knowing that there are millions watching at home brings a different pressure. While the loss of Alphonso Davies could be huge, the majority of the players play in Europe, providing experience in a high level of competition.
Belgium v Canada Preview
Despite the potential pace of Canada, I could see the Belgians slowing the game for the majority of the encounter. The class of Kevin De Bruyne should be the deciding factor here, I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the score sheet, or with multiple assists.
Score prediction: Belgium 2-1 Canada
