Updated Fantasy Football Draft Rankings: The King's Rankings Risers, Fallers and Draft Tips

Javonte Williams - Fantasy Football Rankings, NFL Injury News, DFS and Betting Picks

Scott Engel's updated 2024 fantasy football draft rankings. Included are his draft strategies, advice, picks and fantasy football rankings risers and fallers

The final and most hectic days of the fantasy football draft season are now here. As needed, my latest fantasy football rankings have been supplied for all formats, including tight end premium leagues, along with analysis on recent my fantasy football rankings risers and fallers.

My two sets of rankings below are for PPR formats and FFPC formats (TE premium scoring 1.5 PPR for tight ends). You can also see my PPR rankings by position, Half-PPR rankings, Standard (non-PPR) rankings, and Superflex rankings as part of the RotoBaller Fantasy Football Season Pass. Enter promo code KING at checkout when you upgrade for an additional discount.

Also included are my best recommended approaches for drafting in FFPC TE premium leagues, as well as an essential section on how to optimally draft defenses.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy football rankings for 2025:

Fantasy Football Draft Rankings Risers

Josh Jacobs: He was ranked just outside my top ten throughout the preseason, but now others are catching up due to rookie RB MarShawn Lloyd's hamstring injury having caused him to miss all of training camp. Jacobs’ outlook moving to Green Bay as the featured back for a rapidly improving offense was always a favorable one.

Kenneth Walker III: New Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald has talked about handing the ball to Walker frequently. The 23-year-old RB has the potential to deliver a sizable gain every time he touches the ball and is a top-15 draft target at the position.

Javonte Williams: He has climbed inside my top 20 RBs, and landing Williams in the fifth round of drafts is a chef's kiss. The major knee injury he suffered is almost two years behind him now, and a true breakthrough campaign might be ahead.

Jerome Ford: Nick Chubb will miss at least the first four weeks and could be out longer, so Ford can function as a respectable fantasy starter for a while. He is a top 30 RB pick for a handful of weeks of starting action.

Rico Dowdle: The signing of Dalvin Cook actually confirms that Dowdle has a path to nailing down the lead RB job in Dallas. The Cowboys didn’t bring in any major competition for Dowdle in the offseason, and Cook certainly does not qualify as a significant threat to anyone’s playing time at this point of his career. Dowdle has officially moved into my RB3 range.

Jordan Mason: He seems to be the most popular handcuff in fantasy football right now, and he's only ranked behind Blake Corum and Jaylen Wright among the top insurance RBs.

Emanuel Wilson: The second-year Packers RB was nowhere inside my top 55 players at his position to start the summer, yet he should be on the radar of those who draft Jacobs as a final-round pick. Wilson will likely be the top backup RB for Green Bay while Lloyd is out. He was not ranked at all just two weeks ago.

Amon-Ra St. Brown: The statistical floor is very high for ARSB, and my personal preference is taking elite WRs over RBs for less injury risk on your fantasy roster. St. Brown now ranks inside my top 5 overall players.

Brandon Aiyuk: The contract extension nightmare is over for the 49ers, and Aiyuk got his extension just in time to re-enter as a top 15 at WR.

Malik Nabers: The exciting Giants rookie ranks just outside my top 15 at WR. Even mediocre QB play can feed standout pass-catchers enough to help them produce well enough for our fantasy lineups.

Rashee Rice: He has risen to just outside of my top 20 at WR. A suspension does not seem likely, and Patrick Mahomes showed an increased propensity to target Rice often in some brief preseason action together.

Jameson Williams: One of my favorite breakout players, Williams is finally rolling into the regular season with a smooth runway. You will now find him just above my top 40 WRs.

Brian Thomas Jr.: The Jaguars rookie is now viewed as a higher-end WR4. Jacksonville wants to stretch the field more this season, and there are reasons to have more confidence in Thomas than Gabe Davis to get the job done consistently.

Mike Williams: It is only natural to be skeptical about Williams’ health, but he reportedly will be ready for the regular season and places just outside my top 50 WRs, moving up a few spots. He's worth taking a shot on in rounds 10 to 12 for some upside when the ex-Charger is available to play.

Colby Parkinson: He is one of my featured sleepers, as Parkinson can supply quality TE2 production while Tyler Higbee is out indefinitely following a gruesome knee injury. Parkinson has been a routine pick with my final choice in 20-round drafts, as most other participants are overlooking him.

Geno Smith: My QB ranks have remained mostly unchanged recently. Smith, however, has inspired a lot of internal confidence in Seattle with a strong preseason in camp. The Seahawks' defense will be improved this season after the unit was a big reason why the offense ran the least number of plays in the league last year. Smith will also seek out more big plays and he is a viable QB2 in Superflex formats.

Fantasy Football Draft Rankings Fallers

Kyren Williams: This faller is obvious, as Williams fell to my No. 18 RB slot. It is conceivable that he finishes as a fantasy RB1, but now there is a new significant risk factor involved, which we now have to bake into the rankings. It is not very predictable exactly how much Blake Corum will cut into Williams’ workload, but it is the uncertainty of the situation that forced a 10-spot fall.

Rachaad White: He ranks just outside my top 15 at RB, a few slots down from where he was early in the summer. It’s hard to rank White any lower, but it's hard to get excited about drafting him. It's better to wait maybe two rounds later and get Javonte Williams instead. The third-year Tampa Bay RB averaged 3.6 yards per carry last year and had some of the lowest efficiency metrics of any back league-wide.

According to PlayerProfiler, White was 33rd in Yards Per Touch, 23rd in Juke Rate, and 47th in Breakaway Run Rate among qualifying RBs last year. Rookie Bucky Irving will also cut into his heavy volume from last season, too.

Zack Moss: He was ranked as a top 26 RB earlier in the preseason, as many expected Moss to be the preferred ball carrier for a potent offense. Now, though, it’s harder to get a read on the Cincinnati backfield after gathering more information during the preseason. He’s dropped out of the top 30 at RB.

Tyjae Spears: It was my belief that the promising second-year man could threaten Tony Pollard right out of the chute this year. The ex-Cowboy finished the preseason strong, though, so Spears tumbled from the No. 34 RB spot to more than five slots down on the ranking ladder at his position.

Audric Estime: There was some sleeper buzz about Estime a few weeks ago, but he is clearly behind Javonte Williams and Jaleel McLaughlin on the depth chart. The rookie moved down to the 60s range at RB.

Ja'Marr Chase: The “hold in” continues, so for now, as of this writing, Chase is not in my top 5 WRs or in the overall top 10. He is a risky pick unless this contract extension gets done soon.

Michael Pittman Jr.: According to published reports from team insiders, one reason why the Colts' drafted Adonai Mitchell was to ease Pittman’s receiving workload. Don’t draft him heavily based on last year’s catch totals as it's hard to say for certain the Colts will pass as much with Anthony Richardson under center compared to Gardner Minshew last year. Pittman is now outside my top 20 at WR.

Tank Dell: The Texans brought in Stefon Diggs because a 165-pound guy isn’t meant to be on the field for 78-plus percent of the snap counts. Dell will be boom or bust enough to frustrate fantasy players at times this season, and he just edges into my top 35 at the WR position.

Keon Coleman: The rookie has struggled to adjust to the pro game during the preseason. He does have a favorable outlook long-term, but Coleman has been moved out of my top 40 WRs.

Rome Odunze: Many fantasy players just get too pumped about rookies, especially if they flash during the preseason. That’s what happened with Jaxon Smith-Njigba last year, and now it is Odunze’s turn to be overhyped. He is being widely over drafted as a fantasy WR3.

Yes, Keenan Allen is 32 years old and is a known injury risk. He is not fully fading away just yet, though, and Odunze will open the season as the third WR on the depth chart. Don’t get too caught up in Odunze's long-term promise in the short term of drafts. Odunze simply does not have a clear path to consistent fantasy production as of yet.

Tyler Lockett: Here is further proof that you can never draft or give advice with your heart. Lockett is my favorite NFL player, and he is still going to be a key part of the Seattle offense from a real-life NFL perspective. For fantasy purposes, though, this admirable longtime Seahawk isn’t in my top 50 anymore, as JSN will now start to surpass him in fantasy output, a year after many expected him to do so.

Dallas Goedert: He has caught more than four TD passes just once, and the Philadelphia offense just became more crowded. The fact that Goedert ranks 13th among TEs shows you how quickly the TE position thins out.

Cole Kmet: The Chicago offense has become very deep with three prominent WR options and a productive pass-catching RB. Kmet barely cracks my top 20 TEs. There have also been whispers about Gerald Everett being heavily involved in the offense as well.

Fantasy Football Tights End Strategy for FFPC (TE Premium)

The Fantasy Football Players Championship (FFPC) is a prime example of a gaming platform that elevates the appeal of TEs, awarding them 1.5 points per reception. In those formats, the urgency to address the tight end position greatly increases.

My recommended approach is to draft one of the top seven TEs, so you have less of a chance of dealing with additional inconsistency at what can be the most frustrating position in fantasy football. The TE pool rapidly begins to thin out even more after the top 11 guys are off the board.

In a TE premium format, my highest-ranked players at the position are just outside the top 12 in the overall rankings, and the top seven cut off just outside the top 30. My favorite sleeper/value types are Tyler Conklin, Jonnu Smith, and Parkinson, but you can wait on them until the late rounds as backups after nabbing a top-seven TE target.

Fantasy Football Defense (D/ST) Draft Strategy and Picks

Many fantasy drafters make the mistake of taking defenses purely based on overall rankings. That’s not how to do it unless you get the Jets, and they must be taken ahead of the final rounds in most cases. You should focus on early-season matchups because most of us will stream defenses all season long anyway.

New York’s defense might be the only one that is “set it and forget it” for the season. Some drafters are downright stubborn and just do not want to not address the position every week while wanting to roll with the same unit throughout the schedule. That’s just not how optimum defensive lineup management works.

Yes, the Cleveland is an overall top-level fantasy defense in my ranks, but this is the one position where the rankings are cumulative, but do not quite apply to the proper approach to drafting units.

The Browns open up against the Cowboys and Jaguars, and those are not ideal defensive matchups.

Baltimore is a more extreme example of a higher-ranked cumulative defense to not draft despite their overall ranking. Their matchups include the Chiefs (Week 1), Cowboys (Week 3) and Bills (Week 4). Kansas City is in the same basket, as they open with the Ravens, Bengals, and Falcons.

You will also have to move earlier among defensive drafters to get the top-ranked seasonal units, and it’s better to wait a bit longer and focus on the earliest matchups on the NFL schedule. If you can locate a combination of a good overall ranking and an early-season favorable schedule, then certainly go for that option.

Here are some of my favorite defensive targets based on early-season opponents:

  • Pittsburgh: vs. Denver in Week 2, Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3
  • Seattle: vs. Denver in Week 1, New England in Week 2
  • Las Vegas: vs. Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1, Carolina in Week 3
  • Cincinnati: vs. New England in Week 1
  • Minnesota: vs. New York Giants in Week 1
