Week 13 Streamers Under 50% Owned
Felix Hernandez, SEA (47% owned)
Probable opponents: @ BAL, vs. KC
It’s been a rough year for King Felix in 2018. His 5.14 ERA is caused mainly to a month of May which saw four of his six starts end with allowing at least four earned runs. However, in June, he’s allowed only one earned run in three of the four outings (five earned runs in the other appearance). Hernandez has also tallied at least six strikeouts during that same span. His matchups this week are in his favor. Both the Orioles and Royals are in the basement in runs scored this season. Baltimore is 30th (260 runs in 73 games) and Kansas City is 28th (268 runs in 74 games). Those teams are also 28th (Orioles have .296) and 30th (Royals are .281) in team wOBA against right-handed pitchers.
Lance Lynn, MIN (37% owned)
Probable opponents: @ CWS, @ CHC
For Lynn, it was a bad month of April that inflated his ERA. During that time he allowed at least five earned runs in four of the five outings. Now, he’s on a stretch where Lynn hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in seven consecutive performances. This week, it’s a double-dip in Chicago as his Twins face the White Sox and Cubs on the road. Lynn has already faced the AL’s Chicago team this season: 6 IP, 2 ER, and 7 K (May 5th). The White Sox are 27th in runs scored (270 runs in 74 games) and fifth in team strikeouts (693) this season.
Freddy Peralta, MIL (26% owned)
Probable opponents: vs. KC, @ CIN
In his first three career appearances, Peralta has shutout two opponents and has notched 25 total strikeouts in 15.2 innings of work. One of those shutout performances was even in Colorado (5.2 IP, 0 ER, 13 K). There are pros and cons to facing the Royals this season. First, the bad news, they don’t strike out often. In fact, Kansas City is dead last in team strikeouts allowed this year (530). However, for the good news, they are 28th in team runs scored (268 runs in 74 games) and 30th in team wOBA (.281) against right-handed pitchers.
Under 25% Owned
Mike Montgomery, CHC (24% owned)
Probable opponents: @ LAD, vs. MIN
Talk about consistency, Montgomery has allowed one earned run, or less, in five straight games and has tallied at least four strikeouts in four of those appearances. The Dodgers are next on his schedule, a team Montgomery just faced in his last outing: 6 IP, 1 ER, and 5 K. This time, his Cubs will travel to Dodger Stadium. In 2018, Montgomery has a 1.38 ERA in 32.2 innings on the road. As for the Twins, they are 23rd in runs scored this season (302 runs in 71 games).
Jonathan Loaisiga, NYY (19% owned)
Probable opponents: @ PHI, vs. BOS
In his first two career outings, Loaisiga has allowed a total of three earned runs and tallied 10 strikeouts. While I’m not looking forward to his second start of Week 13 (vs. Boston), I don’t mind the first outing (@ Philadelphia). The Phillies are third in team strikeouts this season with 697 K in 72 games (9.7 strikeouts per contest).
Shelby Miller, ARI (7% owned)
Probable opponents: @ MIA, vs. SF
Miller will make his 2018 debut in a two-start week. He is returning from Tommy John surgery, and has been out of the MLB since April of 2017. In four minor league rehab starts this season, Miller produced 28 strikeouts in 19.1 innings of work. However, he also allowed 10 earned runs during that span (eight earned runs in one outing). On the bright side, he has two pitcher-friendly opponents lined up for Week 13. The Marlins are 29th in runs scored (266 runs in 75 games) and the Giants are fourth in team strikeouts (694) this season.
