ANALYSIS: Miami Marlins starting pitcher Trevor Richards has allowed three earned runs, or less, in six of the last seven appearances. He has also punched out at least six batters in four of the last five outings and has 88 strikeouts in 90 1/3 innings this season. The 25-year-old is 3-7 with a 4.28 ERA, but has a 3.97 FIP in 2018 and allowed just two earned runs in a four start stretch from July 14-August 3 (23 2/3 innings).
This week, the righty is a two-start pitcher, facing the division-leading Braves and playoff contending Yankees. Richards was roughed up by the Braves in his last start (4 1/3 IP, 5 ER, and 3 K), but his strikeout potential is still something to consider. As for the Yankees, they are seventh in team strikeouts (1,074) this season, and, even though they still have fire power, New York will still be without Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez.
Two rougher starts make Richards a lesser two-start pitcher this week, but his strikeout potential is still attractive. If you are able to stomach a potential stinker, Richard is a nice streamer in deeper leagues.
