Analysis: Carolina head coach Ron Rivera says he's "very pleased" with his wide receiver group. While it's hard to argue with the team's success after a 7-0 start, the prognosis for a deep playoff run with the current stable of wideouts leaves a lot of doubt.
Veteran Ted Ginn, Jr. leads those WRs with 20 catches and three touchdowns. Ginn's profile is well-known at this point--he's a top-gear, stretch-the-field receiver with a history of drops who lacks a lot of the nuances necessary for the position. Putting a player like Ginn out there and hoping he torches a secondary for a long score is not a recipe for fantasy success. Still, Carolina passes can't all go to Greg Olson.
If you're in a deep league and crippled with bye week madness and/or injuries, you could start Ginn and get 12-15 points out of him in the best of scenarios. All the better if your league awards points for return yardage, as Ginn still excels on special teams. But more than likely, he puts up for 3-for-45 for 6-9 fantasy points. In the succinct words of Jon Gruden, "...not good enough."
