When it comes to the Cincinnati Reds’ pitching rotation, it can be tough to fully commit to any of its members when trying to form a reliable fantasy SP roster. Aside from Homer Bailey, who is still a question mark in his own right, there is an unproven track record from top to bottom. Raisel Iglesias is slated to be third in the Reds’ rotation, and after winning just three games in 18 starts in 2015 the Cuban right-hander will continue to strive towards improvement.
Behind that dismal record, there is actually a lot to like. Iglesias is not a fireballer by any means, with his average fastball velocity only reaching 92.1 MPH. Instead, he outsmarts hitters, using a diverse repertoire of pitches to miss bats consistently. In 2015, he used his sinker 39.8% of the time and his slider 28.0% of the time. This helped Iglesias compile an astounding K/9 of 9.82. When batters made contact, the ball was on the ground 47.2% of the time.
The Reds’ offense is going to struggle to produce runs and even if Raisel Iglesias takes the next step forward, wins may be hard to come by. The strikeouts, however, should still be there.
