BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
OWNED IN: 28% of leagues
ANALYSIS: After signing a six-year, $24 million deal last spring that set a record for money guaranteed to a player with no MLB experience, Scott Kingery's rookie season failed to live up to expectations. He appeared overmatched against big-league pitching, with terrible plate discipline and a overabundance of soft contact ultimately producing a tepid .226/.267/.338 line in 484 plate appearances. In 2017, Kingery had tallied 26 home runs and 29 stolen bases across Double- and Triple-A, but he only managed eight homers and 10 steals as a rookie.
The Phillies' offseason makeover relegated the soon-to-be 25-year-old to a bench role, so he hasn't seen much of the field thus far in 2019. That has changed for the short term at least with Jean Segura's hamstring injury. Kingery has made the most of his limited opportunities, slashing .414/.469/.759 with a pair of homers and a stolen base in just 32 plate appearances. If he continues to swing a hot bat, he may siphon time from both Cesar Hernandez (at second base, his natural position) and Maikel Franco. Even if not, he's worth an add for the weekend with a series at Coors Field.
