Questions swirled last week after Ryan Fitzpatrick sustained ligament damage in his left, non-throwing hand in the Jets 20-34 loss against the Raiders, about whether or not he would be able to go in Sunday's matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Well, not only did Fitzpatrick play on Sunday, but he played well in the Jets 28-23 victory.
The Jets were led to victory by Fitzpatrick, who passed the ball for 272 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. The Jets, who began the season with a strong rushing attack led by running back Chris Ivory, were completely anemic on the ground against Jacksonville.
The aforementioned Ivory rushed the ball 23 times for a mind-numbingly low 26 rushing yards. Though Ivory was able to salvage the day for his fantasy owners with two short touchdown runs, the Jets leaned on Fitzpatrick and his arm for the victory.
Despite Fitzpatrick's solid day, games like this from Fitzpatrick are more his ceiling as opposed to his floor. You can likely find better options on a weekly basis. As it pertains to Chris Ivory, despite the pedestrian yardage numbers, he continues to get goal-line work, which makes him an RB1 in any format.
The biggest beneficiary of Fitzpatrick's solid performance was Eric Decker, who had six receptions for 79 yards and one touchdown. He also led the team with nine targets. Brandon Marshall, who is having a renaissance year in New York, had four receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown on eight targets.
Decker has caught a touchdown in six of the seven games he has played in, making him a borderline WR1 option on a weekly basis. Marshall is in the same category as well. This means that either Jets receiver is a solid fantasy play, something we have not been able to say about any Jets receiver for some time now.
