ANALYSIS: Rueben Randle caught his second touchdown pass of the season against the Buffalo Bills this week, and that is where a lot of his value comes from. After a very slow start to the season, Randle has gotten more involved in the offense with 10 catches in the last two weeks. As long as Odell Beckham Jr. is lined up on the opposite side of the field, there will be plenty of favorable matchups for Randle, especially this week against the San Francisco 49ers.
With Victor Cruz back on the trainers’ table after aggravating his calf injury in practice, the New York Giants are shorthanded at wide receiver. They’ve brought in several free agents, including Wes Welker and Hakeem Nicks, for tryouts and toyed with Shane Vereen in the slot. What this adds up to is stability for Randle, who was second on the team in Week four with six targets and is averaging a very solid 12.5 yards per catch this season.
The Giants have made a point to publicly push Randle to step up his game and he appears to be taking hold of the opportunity. Since the Giants have struggled to run the ball, having not reached 100 rushing yards in any game, Eli Manning will be airing it out once again to carry his team in an NFC East division race that’s completely up for grabs. As a big part of that passing attack, Randle makes for a great add and start this week vs. the Niners.
