After being limited to just 79 games in 2015 due to a nagging hamstring injury, Yasiel Puig is looking to stay healthy and showcase why he was praised just a few short years ago for his big league potential. As the table setter at the top of the Los Angeles Dodgers order, Puig has managed to trend downward as seasons went on. Puig is still only 25, and likely headed in to his prime, but will 2016 be the beginning of a new trend? After hitting 19 HR in 104 games in 2013, he managed only 16 in 148 games in 2014. Despite the fact that if you extend his 2015 total he was on pace for about 22 HR, he also only batted .255, a career low, by far.
So maybe 2015 was an aberration, and perhaps he will come back in 2016 stronger, leaner, and more productive than ever. The potential exists, if he stays healthy, but a safer option is probably a better choice. Let your friends/opponents roll the dice on Puig, and settle for someone possibly a few ranks below. RotoBaller has Puig ranked 22 among outfielders. Despite an injury plagued path Jacoby Ellsbury seems to have more upside, ranked at 24. As well as Curtis Granderson, ranked 27, who had a season that went under the radar in 2015, but when dissected was extremely impressive. Both of them will likely be better options than Puig.
