Rocket League Championship Series DFS Picks for 4/18/20: DraftKings Daily Fantasy ESports

Jorge Pucks' DraftKings DFS lineup picks for the Rocket League Championship Series on 4/18/20. He analyzes RLCS slates and top targets for ESports DFS contests.

Welcome back, RotoBallers, to my Rocket League DFS picks! I have been covering Counter-Strike: Global Offensive DFS as well here at RotoBaller, but today it's time to switch things up with another fast-paced and exciting ESports contest!

If you are reading this, you must be missing sports quite a bit but have found solace in DFS ESports! Rocket League is by far the closest thing we have to real sports being played right now. If you have never played or watched Rocket League, it is basically soccer being played but instead of using people, you are using cars! It is a 3v3 game and teams play a best of five series to determine the winner. Each match lasts 5 minutes long and players can rack up points by scoring goals, assists, taking shots, making saves on the net, scoring a hat trick, and becoming the game MVP (highest in-game score on the winning team).

Today I'll be bringing you my Rocket League DFS advice, analysis, and picks for DraftKings contests on April 18th, 2020 (10:30 AM slate). Feel free to follow me on Twitter @rdr1634 and hit me up with any questions you might have.

Rocket League Basics

Roster construction for Rocket League contests can be a tad tricky because you have four total spots on your team with two of those being captain spots and two of those being traditional flex spots. Captain spots gain 1.5x fantasy points but also cost a lot more money so constructing your roster starts with the captain spots and building around that.

It is suggested that you at least stack 2 guys from a team that you think will go off. Other builds that can work are:

  • 2-2 (Two stacks from different games)
  • 3-1 (Full-stack with a one-off from a second team)
  • 2-1-1 (Two-man stack with two one-off plays from other games)

Saturday Morning Slate - SA RLCS

  • Pera vs. Ellevens Esports
  • True Neutral vs. Chromax
  • Locusts vs. Avidity Esports
  • Stiff Team vs. Team Renewed

Pera vs. Ellevens Esports

Pera is a relatively newer team in the RLCS scene as this squad has only totaled 11 games together in the Spring Series South America Qualifier. In that qualifier, they went 3-2 so it ended up being a solid first showing.

Ellevens Esports is a more veteran team with a lot more experience under their belt so this will be quite the challenge for Pera. Ellevens is coming off of an impressive 9-0 showing in the Rocket Street Srand Series Season 3 and is proving to be in great form heading into this matchup against Pera.

The main player for Pera is Repi as he averages .82 goals per game and takes about 3.45 shots per game as well. The unfortunate part for Pera is that both fasi and Ianpinheiro haven’t shown much upside from the offensive end as they both average under .35 goals per game. Repi is the main go-to guy for this team and if you are looking for a cheap one-off on this slate, he would be the one to target.

Ellevens Esports has a very strong group that is led by Caard. He is the most expensive player on the slate but is dominant in all facets of the game. He averages .89 goals per game while taking 3.43 shots per game. CaoiTG1 is one to pair him up with since he averages 1.06 goals per game and also takes 3.31 shots per game.

As a whole, Ellevens averages 2.37 goals per game while only allowing opponents to score 1.31 goals per game. Pera will have their hands full as they only generate 1.45 goals per game. Ellevens has a clear advantage and it will be hard to not look to use them on this slate.

True Neutral vs. Chromax

Chromax was recently formed in early April and this squad consists of Matix, Droppz, Brad, and Protomz. They have only played three games together so we have very limited information on them as a whole but in those three games, they did go 3-0 which bodes well for them as a whole.

True Neutral is a team in transition as they lost Lexim to Locusts and will be rolling with AJG, Reysbull, and SHADDD. As a team, they average 1.74 goals scored per game while taking 7.20 shots per game. From the defensive side of things, they allow 2.23 goals per game and 8.95 shots allowed so they can be targeted with opposing offenses.

Droppz did a lot of the damage in his first three games with Chromaz as he averaged 1.33 goals per game and took 4.33 shots per game. We have very limited information on Brad but we do know that Matix played in the first three games with Chromax and he struggled to find the back of the net.

He took 3.33 shots per game so the shot volume was there but was unable to convert them into good quality scoring chances. Protomz is the substitute so with knowing this, he will most likely not be one to target. Matix provides good value and Droppz is certainly worthy of captain consideration on this slate.

True Neutral has a little more familiarity with Shadd and Reysbull having more games under their belt. They both have above a .60 goal per game rate while both averaging above 2.5 shots per game. AJG had a very strong debut in his first three games as he averaged 1 goal per game and 3.67 shots per game. It’s hard to believe that that rate is sustainable but it might be best to consider him if this revamped True Neutral team really plays faster with him.

All three guys are moderately priced and if you decide to stack them, AJG provides really good salary relief compared to other upside players on this slate. Just proceed with caution due to the lack of information and data that we have on them.

Locusts vs. Avidity Esports

Locusts is a newly formed team of Sppyder, Gonk, and Lexim and this team has only been around since the beginning of April so there’s not much team data that we can use besides their most recent games. They have gone 3-1 in their first four games with their only loss coming against Chromax (lost 3-0). They did beat Stiff Team 3-2 so there’s another relevant opponent on this slate that they do have a win over. Avidity has been around for a while and they do a great job limiting opponents scoring chances and goal opportunities.

Haberkamper is the top goal scorer for Avidity as he has a .80 goal per game average and takes 3.10 shots per game. Renan and FirefoxD do not have as much goal scoring upside as Haberkamper but both average over two shots per game while averaging 1.5 saves per game. As a team, they average 1.82 goals per game and limit opposing teams to 1.51 goals per game so this could be a close contest overall that goes the full five matches.

On the Locust side of things, Sppyder is the main goal scorer as he has averaged .79 goals per game in his career. He also takes roughly three shots per game so he is pretty active on a per-game basis. Gonk isn’t the biggest goal-scoring threat but his price on both sites makes him a viable punt option. He has averaged .67 goals per game with his new squad and has taken two shots per game over his last six games so he could be a decent value play on this slate.

Lexim is another punt option to consider as he has averaged over .5 goals per game and takes over two shots per game in his career. Locusts should get overlooked but would be a good place to look for a lower owned stack or one-off cheap punts on both sites. Both sides of this game are intriguing since this could go all five games and could be a viable game stack for this slate.

Stiff Team vs. Team Renewed

The Stiff Team is a newer team composed of Luk, Gian, and Bruno and once again we are digging for data with a brand new team. They have played nine total games so far and have won six of them so a little bit better data for us to use. Unfortunately, Gian is not popping in any Rocket League sites so it’s hard to gauge his own individual stats.

In those nine games, Stiff Team averaged 2.56 goals per game while taking 11.33 shots per game. They did give up two goals per game and allowed 8.22 shots per game so they generally play a more reckless style with a lot more scoring chances so both sides look to be in play. They are a risky team to use with the limited data so proceed with caution.

Team Renewed is composed of three members from The Three Sins and they bring a lot of upside as a new team. The pricing seems a little soft on them and they are one of the better teams on this slate when looking at numbers. They scored 2.27 goals per game and averaged over eight shots per game.

Math, PJ, and Valt are the three members of Team Renewed and Math has an impressive 1.02 goals per game average over 52 games played. He gets off 3.75 shots per game so he is heavily involved. Valt has a .80 goal per game average and gets off 2.99 shots per game so he is a great pairing with Math on both sites.
