1 day agoMilwaukee Brewers pitcher Bryse Wilson was tagged by the Colorado Rockies in Monday's 8-7 loss, allowing five runs (all earned) and seven hits over four innings. Wilson replaced opener Rob Zastryzny in the second inning and immediately allowed homers to Charlie Blackmon and Brenton Doyle while striking out three and walking two. He is now 5-3 with a 4.27 ERA and 1.28 WHIP, striking out 62 and walking 28 over 78 innings. Wilson's penchant for allowing dingers has been an issue, as he's allowed 14 homers. Monday's outing marked the fourth time in six outings that Wilson has yielded at least three earned runs, so now is a good time for fantasy managers to bail on him.Source: ESPN.com
1 day agoChicago Cubs pitching prospect Brandon Birdsell pitched seven innings Monday for Double-A Tennessee, allowing one run on one hit while striking out nine without a walk. Birdsell lowered his season ERA to 3.63 with a 1.16 WHIP. He has 65 strikeouts in 74 1/3 innings. The Cubs No. 20 prospect has a plus fastball to pair with an above-average slider. The 24-year-old right-hander is having a solid season at Double-A and if he builds off this start, could make a case for a promotion to Triple-A by the season's end. He has the potential to be a big-league arm for the Cubs soon.Source: MILB.com
1 day agoNew York Mets pitcher David Peterson pitched well enough to earn a win yet finished with a no-decision in Monday's 9-7 loss at the Washington Nationals. Peterson recorded his third quality start after allowing two earned runs on seven hits over 6 1/3 innings with two strikeouts and a walk. Peterson is 3-0 with a 3.51 ERA and 1.44 WHIP, striking out 22, and walking 14 in 33 1/3 innings. Fantasy managers looking for wins might consider adding Peterson, but his overall numbers make him risky. However, his next start is scheduled for Saturday at the Pittsburgh Pirates, making him a good, but not great, streaming option.Source: ESPN.com
1 day agoBaltimore Orioles infield prospect Jackson Holliday (elbow) crushed a home run for Triple-A Norfolk on Monday. It was the first home run for baseball's top overall prospect since he returned from the injured list on June 25. Holliday is hitting .268 at Norfolk this season with eight homers and 29 RBI in 55 games. The second baseman/shortstop has recorded a .434 on-base percentage and .902 OPS at Triple-A so far. The numbers have been good as Holliday attempts to regain confidence and make a return to Baltimore. His early-season struggles in the majors were well-documented but he has the talent to return and make an impact in the Orioles' lineup this season given the opportunity.Source: MILB.com
1 day agoDetroit Tigers outfield prospect Max Clark went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI for Single-A Lakeland on Monday. The Tigers' top overall prospect is hitting .269 with five homers and 48 RBI for Lakeland this season with 23 stolen bases. At just 19 years old, Clark is turning in a nice season at Single-A. One of the most promising prospects in baseball is showing off his all-around potential with his bat and his legs on the basepaths. As Clark continues to mature and get stronger, the power should continue to develop. He has the potential to be a future five-category contributor in fantasy. He should still be a few years away from making an impact in Detroit, but he could make a quick progression through the minor leagues.Source: MILB.com
1 day agoColorado Rockies pitcher Austin Gomber struggled through six innings during Monday's 8-7 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Gomber received a no-decision after allowing four earned runs on nine hits, striking out three, and not allowing a walk. Monday was a mild improvement, yet Gomber has allowed at least four earned runs in each of his last five starts that has taken his ERA from 2.76 on May 22 to his current 4.72 mark. Gomber is 1-5 with a 1.32 WHIP with 59 strikeouts and 24 walks in 87 2/3 innings. Fantasy managers would be wise to avoid Gomber, even in deeper leagues.Source: MLB.com
1 day agoWashington Nationals outfielder James Wood singled in his first big-league at-bat during Monday's 9-7 loss to the New York Mets. MLB Pipeline's third-ranked prospect also reached on an error and finished 1-for-4 with a strikeout and a walk. Wood showed great plate discipline in his first at-bat, forcing Mets starter David Peterson to use six pitches before Wood delivered an opposite-field single in the bottom of the second. Fantasy managers have waited for Wood, who hit .353/.463/.595 with 10 homers, 37 RBI, 44 runs scored, and 10 stolen bases at Triple-A Rochester, and have no plans to pry him out of their lineups. If Wood is available on waiver wires, break the FAAB bank.Source: MLB.com
1 day agoThe Chicago White Sox are set to promote pitching prospect Ky Bush to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday. Bush, 24, was acquired from the Los Angeles Angels last season as part of the Lucas Giolito deal. The left-hander has been dealing this season for Double-A Birmingham with a 2.12 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 14 starts this season in a career-year. Bush is the club's No. 17 prospect per MLB Pipeline and has looked like a steal with the way he has thrown the ball this season. With the White Sox likely to deal off the little talent that they have at the big-league level, Bush could be an option later this summer. For now, he only holds value in dynasty leagues.Source: Daryl Van Schouwen
1 day agoColorado Rockies outfielder Brenton Doyle hit a pair of homers in Monday's 8-7 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Doyle, who finished 3-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base, hit a two-run homer in the second before launching a solo blast in the eighth that tied the score at 7-7. He is hitting .260/.323/.408 with nine homers, 30 RBI, 48 runs scored, and 20 stolen bases. After struggling in June that saw him finish with a .223/.245/.298 slash line, Doyle and his fantasy managers hope Monday's effort is the jumping-off point for better numbers. His stolen-base potential alone will keep Doyle in the good graces of fantasy managers.Source: ESPN.com
1 day agoChicago Cubs first base prospect Haydn McGeary continued his power surge on Monday for Double-A Tennessee. McGeary went 2-for-4 with a walk and solo home run. The home run would be his fourth in his last three games as McGeary continues to swing a red-hot bat. For the season, McGeary is now hitting .216 with 10 home runs, 36 RBI and four stolen bases. McGeary shows good plate discipline at the dish and his large 6'6 frame has provided him with some of the best power in the Cubs system. Despite the Cubs offensive woes, McGeary doesn't project to be a name in the big-league conversation until next season.Source: Milb.com
1 day agoBaltimore Orioles pitching prospect Chayce McDermott put together a strong performance on Monday for Triple-A Norfolk. McDermott tossed seven innings of one-run ball, allowing three hits with three walks and a career-high 12 strikeouts. McDermott's 12 strikeouts push his season total to 121 in 83 innings. Walks have been an issue for the right-hander this season, but his ability to strikeout opposing batters has saved him in many situations and helped him keep a steady 3.58 ERA for the season. With fellow pitching prospect Cade Povich already on the big-league roster, McDermott could be next in line, should the Orioles need an arm for their rotation. McDermott is worth rostering in dynasty leagues, but due to his high WHIP of 1.40, he would be more of a streaming option in redraft leagues, specifically for strikeouts.Source: Milb.com
1 day agoColorado Rockies outfield prospect Yanquiel Fernandez continued his strong season by going 2-for-5 with a pair of runs and a two-run home run on Monday. Fernandez, 21, is the 67th ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline rankings and he has backed that up by hitting .269 with seven home runs and 39 RBI over 219 at-bats this season. Fernandez offers tons of raw power from the left side of the plate, but still needs to work on his aggressiveness at the plate. The outfielder should be rostered in dynasty formats with his power likely to translate in a big way at Coors Field when he eventually makes his big-league debut, which could come as soon as 2025.Source: Milb.com
1 day agoDetroit Tigers second base prospect Jace Jung (wrist) began his rehab assignment at Single-A Lakeland on Monday. Jung went 0-for-1 with a pair of walks in the contest. The Tigers No. 3 prospect and 42nd overall ranked prospect, per MLB Pipeline has been sidelined since June 20 with right wrist soreness. Jung will return to Triple-A Toledo when he is completes his rehab assignment. For Toledo this season, Jung has hit .270 with 11 home runs and 41 RBI. The Tigers offense has struggled for the most part this season and it wouldn't be a surprise to see Jung make his big-league debut this summer. He should be rostered in dynasty leagues and would be worth a flier in redraft leagues, if he were to get promoted.Source: MLB.com
2 days agoMilwaukee Brewers catcher/designated hitter William Contreras continued his solid offensive season in Monday's 8-7 extra-innings loss to the Rockies. Contreras went 3-for-5 with a single, a double, a solo home run, and a strikeout. Contreras took Austin Gomber deep to the opposite field in the fifth inning, putting a ball just over the right-field fence. The 26-year-old has been a top fantasy catcher option this season, slashing .296/.355/.451 with 10 HR, 59 runs scored, 51 RBI, and five stolen bases in 369 plate appearances. His high average and power provide great ratios, and his ample playing time should continue to help him stand out in counting stats. He has been a high-end fantasy option in general, not just relative to his position.Source: MLB.com
2 days agoWashington Nationals starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore turned in a solid rebound start but came away with a no-decision in Monday's 9-7 extra-innings loss to the Mets. Gore pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits and a walk with eight strikeouts. The 25-year-old has yielded encouraging results this season, going 6-7 with a 3.47 ERA, a 10.62 K/9 rate, and a 2.88 BB9 rate in 17 starts and 90 2/3 IP. Gore has started showing more consistently why he was a former top fantasy prospect. He should have a chance for another solid outing in his next scheduled start against the Cardinals.Source: MLB.com
