1 week agoThe Los Angeles Angels moved outfielder Jo Adell (oblique) to the 60-day injured list on Monday, officially putting an end to his 2024 season. In corresponding moves, the Angels selected the contract of left-hander Jose Suarez and optioned right-hander Hans Crouse to Triple-A Salt Lake after Sunday's game. Adell was never really a realistic candidate to return this year with only a few weeks left after he strained his left oblique during the contest last Friday against the division-rival Texas Rangers. The 25-year-old will now have plenty of time to rehab his oblique before heading into spring training next February. Adell fanned 126 times in 451 plate appearances in a career-high 130 games this year, but he also had his first 20-homer season while driving in 62 and stealing 15 bases. He should enter 2025 as the Halos' everyday right fielder with a decent power/speed profile.Source: Angels PR
1 week agoPhiladelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto (knee) could play by the start of the series against the division-rival New York Mets on Friday, according to manager Rob Thomson. Realmuto still has some swelling and fluid in his bruised left knee. The Phillies hoped that Realmuto could test his knee by catching a bullpen session on Monday, but that will wait until at least Tuesday. The 33-year-old has so far been able to avoid the 10-day injured list, but he's missing a third straight game on Monday. If Realmuto isn't able to return during the upcoming weekend series against New York, there's a good chance the Phillies will put him on the IL and hope to have him fully healthy for the start of the playoffs in October. Garrett Stubbs will continue to serve as Philly's starting catcher until the swelling in Realmuto's left knee goes down.Source: Philadelphia Inquirer - Scott Lauber

1 week agoMinnesota Twins infielder/outfielder Willi Castro (illness) left Monday night's game early against the Los Angeles Angels at Target Field due to an undisclosed illness. Michael Helman replaced Castro in center field before he even saw his first at-bat of the game in the seven-hole. Fantasy managers can probably consider Castro day-to-day this week and should check back in to see if he's feeling good enough to return on Tuesday for the second game of the series. The 27-year-old utility man should continue seeing regular starts in center field until Byron Buxton (hip) returns from the injured list. The switch-hitting Castro made his first All-Star appearance this summer and has provided a career-high 11 home runs while also driving in 52 and stealing 13 bases in 141 games for the Twins in 2024. Castro could use a day off, as he has just one hit in 21 at-bats with two walks and eight K's in seven games in September.Source: The Athletic - Dan Hayes
1 week agoChicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada (groin) is expected to remain in Triple-A for now, according to general manager Chris Getz. Moncada has been out since April due to a lingering groin strain. He's 9-for-26 with a home run in eight games with Triple-A Charlotte. For now, the White Sox want Moncada to continue rehabbing until his body feels good enough to return. Honestly, Moncada is set to be a free agent after the season, so the White Sox are likely just waiting out the end of his contract. Miguel Vargas figures to continue seeing everyday time at third base down the stretch of the season. Although, Vargas has struggled to the tune of a .114 batting average since being traded to the South Side. Despite that, the team appears more invested in Vargas getting at-bats than a pending free agent.Source: Vinnie Duber
1 week agoKansas City Royals catcher Freddy Fermin is out of the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the New York Yankees. This appears to be a routine rest day for Fermin after he caught both games over the weekend. Fermin has been nice surprise to the Royals lineup this season. He's hitting .290 with six home runs and 36 RBI in 99 games this season. In his absence, Salvador Perez will do the catching while Yuli Gurriel covers first base versus left-hander Carlos Rodon. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups ahead of first pitch.Source: mlb.com
1 week agoPittsburgh Pirates catcher Joey Bart is out of the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the Miami Marlins. The team will give Bart a rest day after he started in each of the last two games. This appears to be a routine rest day, so Bart should be back in the lineup after this game. In his absence, Yasmani Grandal will cover behind the plate and bat seventh versus right-hander Valente Bellozo. The veteran catcher has been heating up at the plate lately with a hit in each of his last five games. He could be a low-cost DFS option ahead of Monday's slate.Source: mlb.com
1 week agoLos Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez (ankle) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Hernandez has been sidelined since exiting early during Friday's contest due to an ankle injury. The X-rays came back negative, so the team is calling it a left ankle contusion. The hope is that Hernandez can return within the next day or two. In the meantime, Chris Taylor will play left field and bat ninth against right-hander Kyle Hendricks on Monday. Taylor has been struggling this season and is hitting under .200 currently, so there should be better streaming options available. UPDATE: Manager Dave Roberts said the team is hopeful of having Hernandez back in the lineup on Tuesday, but they'll see how he feels then.Source: mlb.com
1 week agoMinnesota Twins first baseman Carlos Santana (illness) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. The veteran switch-hitter sat out of Sunday's game due to a minor illness. Santana will cover first base and bat leadoff against left-hander Reid Detmers on Monday. The Twins have been having Santana bat leadoff against lefty starters lately, so we'll see if that ends up being a long term solution. The 38-year-old hasn't been great with the bat, but his 20 home runs gives him some fantasy value.Source: mlb.com
1 week agoNew York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe is absent from the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the Kansas City Royals. This appears to be a routine rest day for Volpe who has started in three straight games. The 23-year-old is in a bit of a slump as he's 2-for-15 over his last four games. In his place, Oswaldo Cabrera will cover shortstop and bat eighth versus right-hander Brady Singer. Cabrera has been quiet with the bat lately and won't be an ideal streaming option against a tough pitcher on Monday. Fantasy managers should expect Volpe to be back in the lineup after this game.Source: mlb.com
1 week agoCincinnati Reds outfielder TJ Friedl is back in center field and is batting cleanup on Monday against the Atlanta Braves and right-hander Charlie Morton at Truist Park for the series opener. Friedl left Saturday's game early against the New York Mets after he was experiencing shortness of breath. He sat out of the series finale on Sunday but is apparently feeling much better to begin a new week. Friedl has only faced Morton one time in his career and did not record a hit. The 29-year-old has only played in 68 games with the Reds in his fourth year in the big leagues in 2024 due to various ailments. In that short time, he's provided 11 home runs, 46 RBI and eight stolen bases while slashing .218/.300/.385 with a career-worst .685 OPS. Friedl has looked better in seven games in September, going 6-for-23 (.261) with a homer, double, six RBI and a steal.Source: Cincinnati Reds
1 week agoThe Atlanta Braves placed catcher Travis d'Arnaud on the paternity list on Monday and recalled catcher Chadwick Tromp from the minors in a corresponding move. Regular catcher Sean Murphy is behind the plate on Monday for right-hander Charlie Morton and is hitting fifth against Cincinnati Reds right-hander Nick Martinez. d'Arnaud will most likely miss the next three games against the Reds while welcoming a new addition to his family, but he should be back this weekend for a crucial weekend series versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 35-year-old veteran continues to share playing time with Murphy and has hit .245 (67-for-274) with 14 home runs and 46 RBI in 304 plate appearances over his 90 games. Tromp will likely start one of the three games against Cincy with d'Arnaud not around.Source: Atlanta Braves

1 week agoThe Texas Rangers are calling up right-handed pitching prospect Kumar Rocker from Triple-A Round Rock later this week, and he'll make his major-league debut on Thursday at T-Mobile Park against the division-rival Seattle Mariners. Rocker, the team's No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline, has a 1.96 ERA over 10 games between the Arizona Complex League, Double-A Frisco and Round Rock this year after returning from Tommy John surgery. It's nice to see the 24-year-old former Vanderbilt product making his MLB debut the same season he returned from elbow reconstruction, but fantasy managers looking for streaming options should temper their expectations despite the tempting matchup in Seattle against the M's. The Rangers reportedly want to keep Rocker to around 50 total innings for this season, and he's already thrown 29 2/3 frames in the minors.Source: MLB.com - Kennedi Landry
1 week agoBaltimore Orioles outfielder Cedric Mullins is starting in center field and is batting out of the two-hole on Monday at Fenway Park against the division-rival Boston Red Sox and right-hander Brayan Bello. With Mullins starting to swing the bat well in September, they are moving him up to his highest lineup spot of the year on Monday. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter has also batted .444 with a .989 OPS in nine career at-bats against Bello. So far in September, Mullins has gone 10-for-24 (.417) with two homers, a double, six RBI, one stolen base and five runs scored in seven games played. He's also been much better against righties this year, batting .248 (74-for-298) with 14 of his 15 home runs against righties. While Mullins is hot, ride him in season-long fantasy leagues and in DFS on Monday against Bello.Source: MLB.com
