3 weeks agoThe Los Angeles Dodgers will use right-hander Ryan Brasier as the opener of a bullpen game in Game 4 of the National League Division Series on Wednesday at Petco Park against the division-rival San Diego Padres. This will be Brasier's fifth opening assignment of the year. The 37-year-old veteran reliever allowed just one run in four innings in his previous four opening assignments. In his two relief appearances in the NLDS against the Padres, he's allowed two earned runs on three hits (one homer) while walking none and striking out one in 2 1/3 innings. Brasier probably won't go more than one inning versus the hot-hitting Friars in this one, so DFS managers should stay away. Right-hander Landon Knack will most likely be the Dodgers' bulk reliever in this one as they try to stay alive and force a Game 5 back in LA on Friday night.Source: The San Diego Union-Tribune - Jeff Sanders

3 weeks agoNew York Yankees infielder Oswaldo Cabrera will get the start at first base and will hit eighth for the Yankees in Game 3 of the American League Division Series on Wednesday at Kauffman Stadium against the Kansas City Royals and right-hander Seth Lugo. Cabrera has only faced Lugo three times in his career and has a single and a strikeout. The 25-year-old made the start in the Game 1 win over the Royals on Saturday and went 1-for-4 with a double and three strikeouts before retreating to the bench for the Game 2 loss on Monday. Cabrera is a switch-hitter but has fared much better from the left side against right-handers in 2024, batting .268 (59-for-220) with all eight of his home runs from that side. He hit just .190 (15-for-79) with no home runs and 20 strikeouts in 84 plate appearances from the right side. Cabrera is a low-upside DSF sleeper on Wednesday near the bottom of the lineup.Source: New York Yankees
3 weeks agoPhiladelphia Phillies outfielder Austin Hays is not in the team's starting lineup for Game 4 of the National League Division Series on Wednesday versus the division-rival New York Mets at Citi Field. With Hays on the bench in this must-win game for the Phillies, Weston Wilson will get the nod in left field and will bat out of the eight-hole against Mets left-hander Jose Quintana. Wilson should probably be avoided in DFS lineups down in the eight-hole, especially since he's gone hitless with two strikeouts in six career at-bats versus the veteran southpaw Quintana. Hays will retreat to the bench after going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the Game 3 loss on Tuesday. Wilson, 30, hit a nice .284 (25-for-88) during the regular season, but it came with only three long balls, 10 RBI and three steals. He didn't see a plate appearance in the first three games of the series.Source: Philadelphia Inquirer - Alex Coffey
3 weeks agoNew York Mets infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil (wrist) will play in Arizona Fall League games on Friday and Saturday. Manager Carlos Mendoza said the team wants to see him play in back-to-back games of nine innings before they think about adding him to the postseason roster for the National League Championship Series if they advance past the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies in the Division Series. The 32-year-old veteran and former batting champion has been out since early September due to a fractured right wrist, but facing live pitching is the last box he needs to check before returning. Getting McNeil back for the NLCS would be a nice boost to the Mets, but he wouldn't be guaranteed any starts after struggling in 2024 and missing extended time to end the regular season. He hit just .238 in 2024 and added 12 homers, 44 RBI and five steals in 424 at-bats.Source: Newsday - Tim Healey
3 weeks agoCleveland Guardians right-hander Tanner Bibee will make the start in Game 4 of the American League Division Series on Thursday at Comerica Park against the division-rival Detroit Tigers. In his first career playoff start in the Game 1 win over the Tigers on Saturday at Progressive Field, Bibee went 4 2/3 scoreless innings on four hits while walking one and fanning six. He has plenty of experience facing this Tigers squad, as he toed the rubber against them four times during the regular season in 2024, going 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 19 strikeouts and only four walks. The 25-year-old will be a popular DFS play on Thursday with only two games on the slate for the Division Series with the National League having an off day. Bibee went 12-8 in his second big-league season this year with a 3.47 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and a 187:44 K:BB in 173 2/3 frames over 31 starts.Source: The Associated Press - Tom Withers
3 weeks agoKansas City Royals infielder/outfielder Adam Frazier is making the start in right field and will bat eighth for the Royals in Game 3 of the American League Division Series on Wednesday at Kauffman Stadium against the New York Yankees and right-hander Clarke Schmidt. Although Frazier has only faced Schmidt eight times in his career, he has four hits (one homer and two doubles) off of him with three RBI, one walk and one strikeout. With Frazier in action on Wednesday, veteran Tommy Pham will start on the bench against a right-hander. DFS managers should consider Frazier a low-upside sleeper for Wednesday's slate, as the veteran hit only .202 (53-for-262) on the year with four home runs, 22 RBI and 35 runs scored for the Royals. Wednesday's start will be his first postseason action so far in 2024 with KC.Source: Kansas City Royals
3 weeks agoPhiladelphia Phillies right-hander Zack Wheeler won't be in the bullpen for Game 4 of the National League Division Series on Wednesday against the division-rival New York Mets at Citi Field. Wheeler would only pitch in an emergency situation in this must-win game for the Phillies. Left-hander Cristopher Sanchez, who started Game 2 on Sunday, will be available in a relief role. The Phillies are starting left-hander Ranger Suarez on Wednesday. The 34-year-old Wheeler is on just three days of rest and went 111 pitches in the team's Game 1 loss against the Mets on Saturday. Wheeler was excellent in a no-decision on Saturday, tossing seven shutout innings while giving up only one hit, walking four and striking out nine. If Philadelphia wins on Wednesday and forces a deciding Game 5 on Friday back at Citizens Bank Park, Wheeler would make the start for the Phillies.Source: Philadelphia Inquirer - Scott Lauber

3 weeks agoCleveland Guardians rookie first baseman Kyle Manzardo is serving as the team's designated hitter and will bat out of the two-hole on Wednesday in Game 3 of the American League Division Series at Comerica Park against the division-rival Detroit Tigers and rookie right-hander Keider Montero. In his only at-bat against Montero this year, Manzardo went down on strikes. The 24-year-old has entered as a pinch-hitter in each of the first two games of the Division Series against Detroit and has gone hitless in his two at-bats with one strikeout. The former second-rounder of the Tampa Bay Rays in 2021 out of Washington State played in his first 53 big-league games in 2024 and slashed .234/.282/.421 with a .703 OPS, five home runs, 15 RBI and 11 runs scored. Manzardo will be a low-cost DFS sleeper on Wednesday in a position to do some damage in the two-hole.Source: MLB.com
3 weeks agoNew York Mets outfielder/designated hitter Jesse Winker is not in the starting lineup for Game 4 of the National League Division Series on Wednesday at Citi Field against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies. With Phillies left-hander Ranger Suarez on the bump, Winker will take a seat in favor of the right-handed-hitting J.D. Martinez, who will serve as the DH and bat sixth. In nine career at-bats versus Suarez, Martinez has gone 2-for-9 with a double, two RBI, one walk and three strikeouts. Winker got the start in the Game 3 win on Tuesday and homered, but he'll take a seat with a lefty on the mound. The 37-year-old Martinez has gone 3-for-10 with three RBI and a run scored so far in five postseason games this year, and he's hit a nice .295 with 10 homers and five doubles in 38 career postseason games. However, he hit .109 (6-for-55) with no homers and 15 K's in 16 games in September.Source: New York Mets
3 weeks agoPittsburgh Pirates infield prospect Termarr Johnson (foot) was injured while playing in the Arizona Fall League on Tuesday night and had to be carried off the field while being unable to put any weight on his right foot. Johnson injured his foot swinging through a pitch. It's unclear exactly what the 20-year-old's injury is, but we should have an update on his status soon. Based on how the injury looked on the field, though, it wouldn't be a surprise if Johnson is shut down for the rest of the AFL season this fall. The former fourth overall pick in 2022 hit a combined .237/.367/.386 with a .753 OPS, 15 home runs, 54 RBI and 22 stolen bases in 124 games with High-A Greensboro and Double-A Altoona during the 2024 season. MLB Pipeline has him listed as Pittsburgh's No. 3 prospect. Depending on the severity of his injury, Johnson has a shot to make his MLB debut in 2025.Source: SI.com - Jack Sommers
3 weeks agoHouston Astros utility man Mauricio Dubon (thumb) played the final month of the 2024 season with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb, according to a person with knowledge of the injury. Dubon will need surgery to fix the ligament damage, which will be performed by renowned hand surgeon Dr. Thomas Graham. The typical recovery time for the injury is six to eight weeks, meaning Dubon should be at full strength for the start of spring training next February. He initially injured his thumb sliding into first base on Sept. 6 against the Arizona Diamondbacks, although X-rays showed no damage at the time. Dubon played well despite the injury in 18 games, hitting .291/.322/.346 over 59 plate appearances. MLBTradeRumors projects Dubon to earn $4.6 million this winter in his third time through the salary arbitration process. The 30-year-old hit .269/.296/.361 with four homers and three steals in 137 games in 2024.Source: The Athletic - Chandler Rome
3 weeks agoCleveland Guardians rookie first baseman/outfielder Jhonkensy Noel will retreat to the bench for Wednesday's Game 3 of the American League Division Series against the division-rival Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. Noel will take a seat for the first time in the ALDS after going hitless in four at-bats with a walk and a hit-by-pitch. Will Brennan will make the start in right field on Wednesday and will hit seventh against Tigers rookie right-hander Keider Montero. Brennan, who hits from the left side, was much better against right-handers this year, going 82-for-295 (.278) against them with all eight of his home runs and 28 of his 30 RBI on the season. He has seen just one at-bat so far in the two games of the ALDS and was unable to record a hit. Brennan finished the final month of the regular season hitting .370 (17-for-46) with three doubles, two RBI and four runs scored in 18 games played.Source: MLB.com - Zack Meisel
3 weeks agoDetroit Tigers rookie second baseman Wenceel Perez is back in the starting lineup for Game 3 of the American League Division Series on Wednesday at Comerica Park against the division-rival Cleveland Guardians and right-hander Alex Cobb, playing right field and batting fifth. Zach McKinstry will start on the bench in this one. Perez supplied two hits and a run scored in the Game 1 loss to Cleveland on Saturday and didn't get the start in the Game 2 win on Monday. The 24-year-old Dominican switch-hitter hit .242/.300/.383 with a below-average .683 OPS, nine home runs, 37 RBI and nine stolen bases in his first 112 major-league games in 2024. Perez did not face Cobb at all this year but was much more productive against right-handers as a lefty hitter this year, batting .251 (76-for-303) with eight of his nine home runs against them. He'll be a low-upside DFS sleeper for Wednesday's full slate of playoff action.Source: Detroit Tigers
