6 days agoChicago Cubs first baseman Michael Busch was hot at the plate during Sunday's game against the Colorado Rockies. The left-handed slugger brought his pop with him to the plate as he blasted two home runs as part of a three-hit day. Busch knocked in three runs during this game to help the Cubbies get a much-needed win. The 26-year-old is now up to 20 home runs this season with four long balls in the month of September. Busch is looking like a solid long term option for the Cubs at first base, but we'll see what the team decides to do this offseason.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com

6 days agoPittsburgh Pirates shortstop Oneil Cruz (ankle) left early during Sunday's game against the Kansas City Royals. Cruz left the game after slipping in the outfield, but is considered as day-to-day. Manager Derek Shelton said Cruz was pulled for precautionary reasons and is dealing with ankle discomfort. This sounds like a day-to-day type of issue that shouldn't require a trip to the injured list. Cruz is still getting comfortable with his new spot in the outfield, but the Pirates want to see him out there long term. Michael A. Taylor replaced Cruz in center field on Sunday. Taylor will likely see more time out there until Cruz is back, but he doesn't offer much value with his .190 batting average.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Andrew Destin

6 days agoLos Angeles Angels outfielder Mickey Moniak (hand) was forced to exit late during Sunday's game against the Houston Astros. The left-handed outfielder left in the eighth inning after getting hit by a pitch in the hand. The team already had Moniak undergo further testing which revealed a hand contusion. For now, Moniak is considered as day-to-day, so he should avoid a trip to the injured list. Michael Stefanic replaced him on Sunday, but Jordyn Adams or Gustavo Campero figure to see more playing time while Moniak is out.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Jeff Fletcher

6 days agoSeattle Mariners catcher Mitch Garver hasn't seen much of the field lately, but he has been productive whenever he plays. On Sunday, Garver went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run during the shutout victory over the Texas Rangers. The right-handed slugger has knocked in nine runs over his last three games. Possibly, this three-hit performance gives Garver more chances in the lineup, but he has struggled throughout most of the season. Garver isn't anything more than a dart throw in DFS lineups whenever he plays.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com

6 days agoSeattle Mariners starting pitcher George Kirby made easy work of the Texas Rangers lineup during Sunday's game. The right-hander allowed only one hit over seven shutout innings during Sunday's victory. He struck out three batters along the way and only gave up a single to Ezequiel Duran. Kirby has been excellent against the Rangers throughout his career and is having a strong overall season in general. He'll take a 3.62 ERA into his next start and is a must-start option the way he has been pitching.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: mlb.com

6 days agoNew York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor (back) was forced to exit early during Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. The veteran infielder didn't look right in his first at-bat, so the team decided to pull him out of the game for precautionary reasons. The plan is for Lindor to undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the issue. It sounds like Lindor has been dealing with this issue for weeks now, so this could be something that does end up sidelining him. Luisangel Acuna figures to take over as the starting shortstop in Lindor misses time. The 22-year-old probably isn't a great snag in fantasy formats right now but has a ton of potential heading into 2025.--Andy Webb - RotoBallerSource: Tim Healey

6 days agoCleveland Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan (fatigue) remains out on Sunday due to general body fatigue. The outfielder has been kept out of the starting nine all weekend due to minor fatigue. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day heading into next week. With the Guardians currently leading the AL Central, they will lean on the side of caution with their star outfielder before October. As a result, Angel Martinez will cover left field on Sunday afternoon and bat in the leadoff spot. Martinez went 0-for-3 yesterday but will continue to receive opportunities while Kwan remains out.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

6 days agoColorado Rockies second baseman Brendan Rodgers (hamstring) remains sidelined on Sunday due to hamstring tightness. However, Patrick Lyons of Justbaseball.com reports that the infielder could return to the starting nine as early as Monday. Rodgers sat out Saturday's game but should not be expected to miss any significant period of time. Before the injury, Rogers held a mere .184/.225/.237 line throughout September with only two extra-base hits. As a result, Aaron Schunk will cover the keystone and bat in the nine-hole. The 27-year-old has tallied at least one hit in each of the past three starts and could be a sneaky play in DFS this afternoon as he will face Cubs right-hander Kyle Hendricks, who carries a hefty 6.51 ERA.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Patrick Lyons

6 days agoCincinnati Reds third baseman Jeimer Candelario (toe) is unlikely to return this season, according to MLB.com. Manager David Bell stated, "It's looking more and more like he's not going to be back this year either. He's still having quite a bit of pain." The 30-year-old has been sidelined since mid-August after being hit by a pitch. Before the injury, the veteran posted a .225/.279/.429 line with 20 home runs and four stolen bases. Fantasy managers should expect Ty France to cover first base and Noelvi Marte and Santiago Espinal to cover the hot corner for the remainder of the summer. This afternoon, Espinal covered third base while Marte served as the designated hitter.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

6 days agoColorado Rockies starting pitcher Cal Quantrill (triceps) was reinstated off the 15-day injured list and is slated to start Sunday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Quantrill has been sidelined since August due to a triceps injury. In his past four starts, the right-hander posted a 5.40 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, and a 12:13 BB:K ratio. Fantasy managers should expect Quantrill to remain in the rotation for the remainder of the season. He should not be considered in DFS this afternoon as he will face the Chicago Cubs in the hitter-friendly Coors Field.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Colorado Rockies

6 days agoNew York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (forearm) will remain out of the starting nine on Sunday due to a forearm injury. However, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reported that the X-rays came back negative, which is a great sign for the 35-year-old. Marte was hit by a pitch on his forearm during Saturday's game but has avoided a significant injury. As a result, Tyrone Taylor will cover right field this afternoon and bat in the eight-hole. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to the Mets lineup on Monday evening, as Marte could return. Over his past 17 games, he has held a .241 average but has stolen three bases. Taylor has posted a mere .182 average across his past nine games and should be left out of your DFS lineup this afternoon.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Anthony DiComo

6 days agoWashington Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams (shoulder) is being kept out of the starting nine again on Sunday afternoon as the Nationals look to clinch a series victory over the Miami Marlins. The star infielder has been sidelined since Friday due to shoulder soreness and will need at least another day to rest. As a result, Nasim Nunez will cover shortstop again and bat in the nine-hole. Abrams has emerged as a legit power and speed threat this season, hitting 20 home runs and swiping 29 bags. Nunez has tallied just four hits across his past nine starts and should be left out of your DFS lineup this afternoon as he will face Miami right-hander Adam Oller.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

6 days agoNew York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor (back) is back in the starting lineup as the Mets look to continue their playoff push against the Philadelphia Phillies. The MVP candidate left Friday's game early due to back soreness and was held out of Saturday's lineup as a precaution. This is a great sign, as the injury was not considered severe. Since the start of the month, the switch-hitting shortstop has held a .282/.364/.513 line with three doubles, two long balls, and two stole bases. Throughout the summer, the 30-year-old sits with an excellent .270/.341/.493 line with 30 home runs and 27 stolen bases. Lindor remains a high-end fantasy contributor and should be locked into all lineups down the stretch. Given his elite upside, he is always worth a look in DFS. He will face Phillies southpaw Cristopher Sanchez this afternoon.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Tim Healey

6 days agoToronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho (shoulder) will remain out of the starting nine on Sunday afternoon due to a sore left shoulder. Mike Wallner of the Toronto Star reports that this injury has kept the 28-year-old out of the lineup since Tuesday. As a result, Nathan Lukes will cover center field and bat in the leadoff spot. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Varsho's status before their game on Tuesday evening against the Texas Rangers. Throughout September, Varsho has carried a mere .148/.207/.296 line. Lukes has tallied 12 hits across his past nine games with two of them going for extra bases. He is worth a look in DFS this afternoon as he will face St. Louis right-hander Miles Mikolas, who enters Sunday with a 5.55 ERA.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Mike Wallner

Fantasy Football Running Backs With a Potential Workhorse Role in Week 3

As NFL offenses continue to evolve, most teams live and die by the pass.
