1 month agoRichard Childress Racing's Austin Dillon will start 22nd in this week's Bank of America ROVAL 400 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval Course. This is Dillon's lowest starting position at the Roval since 2019, when he started 30th before finishing 23rd, which was his only start at the site that year. In six races at the Roval, Dillon has three top-15 finishes and one top-10, which was scored in the 2022 race. In 31 races so far in 2024, Dillon has one win, 12 top-20 finishes, and an average finish of 22.1. Dillon has been underwhelming at road and street courses this year, with only one top-20 finish at the Chicago Street Course (19th). In first practice, Dillon ranked 18th in five consecutive lap averages and 10th in 10 consecutive lap averages. In final practice, Dillon ranked 14th in five consecutive lap averages. Although his performances at road courses were unfavorable this year, Dillon's practice speeds and track history at the Roval make him a usable yet sneaky value play for all DFS formats.

currently

cushion

cut
line
in
the
playoffs,
and
while
that
is
definitely
a
good
gap
from

1 month agoDon't expect much out of Josh Berry in this weekend's Bank of America Roval 400 at the Charlotte Roval. Berry not only qualified way back in 36th this weekend, but the No. 4 Ford has been one of the slowest cars at road courses this entire season. At this track type this year, Berry has an average finish of 32.3 (which is the worst in the series) and his speed ranking is just 34th-fastest. Although it may be tempting to roster Berry in DraftKings this weekend due to the high Place Differential upside, you should severely limit your expectations with the $6,400 driver this weekend. There are plenty of other driver options in that price range that would be better options than Berry on Sunday. He was 33rd-fastest in the first practice session on Saturday and just 35th-fastest in the final session (out of 38 cars).

1 month agoRicky Stenhouse Jr. is considered one of the foremost NASCAR Cup Series drafting specialists and he backed that up with a win in Sunday's YellaWood 500 at Talladega. He also won Stage 1 after a last-lap pass of Chris Buescher. Although he has had a low-key very disappointing season, as his speed percentile of 34.69% this year is the slowest of his career and his seven crash DNFs are tied for his most ever, he remains consistently capable of strong runs on drafting tracks. He certainly had a great deal of help because Austin Cindric seemed to be faster but got turned while he was battling Stenhouse for the lead with four laps remaining, which eliminated almost all of Stenhouse's remaining competition. The win ties him with Pete Hamilton and Michael Waltrip for the most Cup Series wins without winning on a track other than Daytona or Talladega with four.

1 month agoJoey Logano had an unexpectedly disappointing run at Talladega on Sunday, although most people expected much more from him, especially after his win at Atlanta. Although Logano was one of the dominant drivers for most of Stage 3, making seven on-track passes for the lead in an epic duel with his teammate Austin Cindric and previous No. 22 car driver A.J. Allmendinger, he arguably triggered the Big One by bumping former teammate Brad Keselowski into his current teammate Cindric, which wrecked nearly the entire field and relegated Logano to a 33rd-place finish. It dropped him 13 points below the cut line because he shockingly failed to score any stage points. Since Tyler Reddick and Chase Elliott, the last two drivers above the cut line, are two of the best road racers in the business, it's hard to imagine Logano overcoming that.

1 month agoChase Elliott had a so-so run at Talladega by his standards, but he did what he needed to do to maintain his position on the playoff bubble, where he leads Joey Logano by 13 points for the final transfer spot. Despite qualifying 11th, Elliott had a disappointing Stage 1 when he was consistently outrun by his teammates Kyle Larson and Alex Bowman and failed to score stage points, but recovered to finish second in Stage 2 and generally remained in the top ten until he was caught up in the Big One, even though he rarely fought for the lead. However, it turned out that all the other playoff drivers either on or below the bubble were also caught up in the crash, so he essentially lost nothing. Considering Elliott's stellar road course record, it's hard to imagine him not advancing to the Round of 8.
