Michael Thorbjornsen A Dark Horse At Sony Open
3 months agoMichael Thorbjornsen should be on the radar of fantasy managers this week and could offer tremendous upside in the $7,000 salary range on DraftKings. The 23-year-old Stanford alum earned his Tour card after finishing as the No. 1 player in the PGA Tour University Class of 2024, and he's turned heads ever since. "Thor" has impressively notched four top-10 finishes in just 19 Tour events played, with two of those coming in his most recent three starts. His inaccuracy off-the-tee should be mitigated with Waialae's non-penal rough, and he'll likely be able to score with the eighth-best birdie-or-better percentage and fourth-best Bermuda putting in the field over the last 36 rounds. Fantasy managers should feel confident buying stock in Thorbjornsen at the Sony Open this week.

Michael Thorbjornsen Looking To Bounce Back At Torrey Pines
2 months agoMichael Thorbjornsen was in strong contention to make the cut at The American Express after rounds of 65 and 68, but a three-over 75 on Saturday left him just one stroke short. He now shifts his focus to the Farmers Insurance Open, an event he has yet to compete in. At Torrey Pines, driving distance and approach shots from over 200 yards will be key, as over 26% of approach shots come from this range. Though the sample size is limited, Thorbjornsen ranks in the 90th percentile for proximity to the hole on approaches from over 200 yards over the past year. Priced at $7,400 on DraftKings, fantasy managers will need to decide whether they trust the 23-year-old's ability to rebound at this challenging venue before adding him to their lineups.

Michael Thorbjornsen Looks To Keep Momentum Going In Utah
6 months agoIt was a solid week in Mississippi for Michael Thorbjornsen as the young 23-year-old rode a hot putter to a T8 finish. He ranked seventh on the week in strokes gained putting (+1.48) and fourth in strokes gained off the tee (+0.88), both of which he was very hot and cold in the seven events played in the regular season after turning pro in June. Getting acclimated to the professional circuit is an uphill battle for most players, and it certainly appears that Thorbjornsen is no different. That being said, a new venue for the PGA Tour levels the playing field for new guys going up against journeyman players with a wealth of course knowledge. It wouldn't be surprising to see someone with his talent put together another solid showing, even if the overall stats don't support it. At $10,600 on FanDuel, it's a hefty price to pay for such a wide variety of outcomes and should be viewed as a risky play with high upside should the strong play with the driver and putter continue.
