The San Jose Sharks have placed goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury. The 27-year-old stopped 13 shots before leaving late in the first period of a 7-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night. Blackwood began his career with the Devils and enjoyed two productive seasons with them before struggling in each of his last four campaigns. This season, he owns a 3.48 goals-against average and an .899 save percentage across 35 games for San Jose, going just 9-18-3 in that time. The Sharks currently sit second-last in the NHL with a 15-37-5 record, tied with the Chicago Blackhawks in points but leading in points percentage. Their -102 goal differential is by far the worst mark in the league.--Brenton Kemp
