Cardinals "In The Market" For Setup Reliever
1 day agoAccording to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the St. Louis Cardinals are in the market for a set-up reliever. The Cardinals have reportedly had discussions with other clubs regarding a trade for third baseman Nolan Arenado which would clear some salary. In addition, earlier this offseason, the Cardinals opted to lose Paul Goldschmidt to the New York Yankees during free agency which also cleared some salary. While Ryan Helsley was the go-to ninth inning option last season tallying 49 saves with a 2.04 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP, the Cardinals typically turned to JoJo Romero or Andrew Kittredge in seventh and eighth innings. Romero tallied 30 holds with a 3.36 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP while Kittredge tallied 37 holds with a 2.80 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP. Fantasy managers should monitor who the Cardinals decide to target and who they deploy in the eighth inning as they would be a valuable asset in leagues that score holds.
