Sunday's 29-13 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs may have been the most bittersweet game of Peyton Manning's illustrious career. The 17-year pro broke Brett Favre all-time passing yards record with a quick four-yard pass to running back Ronnie Hillman, which earned the five-time MVP a standing ovation. Unfortunately, that moment was the only highlight of Manning's disastrous day on the field.
Manning's day began on a sour note, throwing an interception on his first pass attempt. He proceeded to throw three more interceptions while passing for just 35 yards on a five connected passes (on 20 attempts) before being benched in favor of Brock Osweiler with 6:34 remaining in the third quarter. It was an ugly end to an awful performance by Manning and the Broncos offense. After looking rejuvenated against Green Bay in Week 8, Manning and the Broncos have regressed over the course of the past two weeks, with yesterday's loss being by far the most disturbing of the year.
Osweiler performed about as well as a quarterback who didn't expect to play could; he ended the day with 146 passing yards, one touchdown, and an interception. After the game, Coach Gary Kubiak admitted that he should not have made the decision to start Manning as a result of injuries Manning has been dealing with, telling the media after the game: "Peyton is our quarterback if he's healthy. I am disappointed in myself. When Saturday there was more (with ribs) I should have made the decision to not play him."
It's highly unlikely that you were turning to Peyton Manning as your every week QB1 before this week, but if you were, it goes without saying that Manning should be relegated to the bench. It hurts to say, but you can likely find better weekly streaming options on the waiver wire.
