NHL DFS Picks for 3/29/16
A couple strategy notes. For cash game construction look for players who can contribute to your score when they are not providing offense. Examples are guys who take a ton of shots, defensemen who block a lot of shots (DraftKings). Also, look for guys who get powerplay time and especially Top 6 forwards. You can find value in players who join a new line due to an injury or just get a promotion and more ice time.
For large field tournaments (GPP's) you want to find payers who have multi point upside and can grab double digit fantasy points. To stack the most upside in your forwards a common strategy is to punt the defense position. This doesn't mean just grab anyone. Try and look for a D man who will be playing more PP time or might get a boost in overall playing time due to an injury.
Let's take a look at some solid plays for today's action.
Phil Kessel, Wing, Penguins (DraftKings - $6,800)
Coach Mike Sullivan has said Kessel is playing his best hockey of the season, and the stats are playing that out. Kessel is feeling it right now and it's probably worth taking an interest in. He has two goals and five assists in his last two games. On top of that, he has a plus-5 rating, 11 shots, and two power play points. It won't last forever, but it's good time to put your faith in Kessel.
Robby Fabbri, Center, Blues (DraftKings - $4,000)
Not only is the price right, he's a player many are sleeping on. That's in part because of a slow start to the season. But the rookie has turned it on recently. Since Connor McDavid returned from injury, Fabbri is the second highest scoring rookie in the league. He has four goals and seven assists in his last 12 games.
James Reimer, Goaltender, Sharks (DraftKings - $7,100)
Reimer isn't just a good bet, the price is fantastic Tuesday. He's likely to get the start with Martin Jones taking the net against the Kings on Monday. His last start with the Sharks didn't go great, but overall, Reimer has had a good season and has been excellent since joining the Sharks. Despite that rough game, he has a .920 save percentage through five games with the Sharks. Add in that he's playing a miserable Vancouver team that has been shutout in four of its last six games, and it's a recipe for success.
Brent Burns, Defense, Sharks (DraftKings - $8,400)
Yeah, he's pricey, but he's worth it. Burns is putting up historically impressive shot totals and is about to face a Canucks team that has allowed at least 30 shots in each of their last five games and 19 of their last 24. In fact, they've given up a total of 200 shots in their last five games, for an average of 40 per game. That's a great situation for a volume shooter like Burns.
Victor Rask, Center, Hurricanes (DraftKings - $4,200)
Now on a three-game goal streak, Rask is showing his upside. He can get a lot of shots on net, sees power play time, and has quality linemates. He has a lot of upside at this price, and this price range can be deceptive when you see guys like Patrick Marleau next to him. He's not slumping like Marleau and is playing consistent time further up the lineup.
Erik Haula, Center, Wild (DraftKings - $4,100)
Haula just keeps rolling along. Now on a career-best eight-game point streak, there's little reason to think that he's about to run the train off the rails. While paired up with Nino Niederreiter, the Finnish center has been unstoppable.
