ANALYSIS: Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz has always had the stuff, but never seemed to be able to put it all together for very long stretches. If his start to this season is any indication, he may be turning a corner. Foltynewicz managed to neutralize the powerful Nationals lineup last week, throwing 5.1 innings of four-hit, one-run ball with 8 K and just 2 BB. Through 15 1/3 IP, he has posted a 2.95 ERA (3.55 FIP) and 10.06 K/9.
While his hot start to the season is nice, remember that he had a 4.79 ERA last season and never has had an ERA lower than 4.31 in his MLB career. The strikeouts can be real, as his strikeouts/nine have risen in each of his five MLB seasons, so he could be a nice addition solely for strikeout potential.
Scoop him up quickly, as another couple of solid starts will see his ownership could go through the roof. He could be a great pitcher to round out your rotation.
