Analysis: It is very hard to score runs or knock runs in when you are suiting up for the Atlanta Braves. However, that is not what Mallex Smith is for. In 103 AB this year, Smith has had just 27 stolen base opportunities. Out of those 27 opportunities, he has attempted to steal eleven times. Out of those eleven, he has six steals. Seeing as Smith has an OBP of just .282, it is extremely valuable that he seems to love to run. He attempts a steal about 41% of the times that he is able to do so, helping produce steals in volume amidst his poor OBP. Smith got off to a bad start in April with a BA of just .188 and two stolen bases in 48 AB. However, so far in May, Smith has a .291 BA, four stolen bases, and has even hit three HR off of a .527 SLG in 55 AB. Smith loves to run, and he does it quite frequently. Now that he is performing better at the plate, those steals should come in even higher volume.
