ANALYSIS: After back-to-back nine-strikeout performances, it seems as though Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Kyle Gibson is on the right track. He has allowed three earned runs, or less, in nine of the last 10 starts and has struck out at least five batters in four of his last five appearances. While he is only 4-6 this season, he has a 3.42 ERA, 3.79 FIP, 8.9 strikeouts per nine, and his 1.23 WHIP this season; all of those numbers would be the best of his career.
A start in Kansas City could be his first start after the All-Star break, a good start to the second half for the righty. The Royals are 29th in team wOBA (.292) against right-handed pitchers and 30th in runs scored (325 runs in 92 games) this season. Gibson has the potential to be on the road twice in Week 16, as he should start in Toronto against the Blue Jays. He is 2-2 with a 2.84 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 57 innings away from Target Field this year.
