ANALYSIS: Hector Olivera began his major league career at the age of 30 last season. He was originally signed by the Dodgers out of Cuba, with a reputation as a power hitter. He hasn't shown that power just yet, but then again he has only logged 90 Major League at-bats so far. Olivera had a hot spring, hitting .393 and driving in 12 RBI, although he was homer-less. The Braves are hoping his hot hitting carries over as he settles in at left field. Currently listed as a third baseman, Olivera will soon gain OF eligibility as well. He is being overlooked due to the fact he isn't a young international prospect and he plays on a lackluster team. If Olivera finds his groove, he can post respectable numbers and help any mixed-league team.
