Cincinnati Bengals running back Giovani Bernard is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup to target as a free-agent addition for Week 2 of the 2019 NFL season.

ANALYSIS: Giovani Bernard outcarried Joe Mixon (ankle) seven to six in Week 1 against the Seahawks after the latter left with an injury. While Bernard was nothing special on the ground -- 3.0 yards per carry for 21 yards -- Mixon could wind up missing Week 2 against the 49ers. In addition to his seven totes, Bernard chipped in two catches on three targets for 42 yards in the passing game.
Cincy won't pass nearly as much as they did against Seattle, but Bernard should continue to be involved in the passing game, even if Mixon is healthy. He's the direct handcuff to Mixon and will have RB2 upside as the primary back if Mixon misses any game action. As the main back for most of the season opener, Bernard was in on 62 percent of the team's offensive snaps.
At the very least, Bernard is a speculative waiver wire pickup for either Mixon owners or those looking for a short-term spark/depth at the position.
