Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix DFS: DraftKings Daily Fantasy F1 Lineup Picks

Max Verstappen - F1 DFS lineup picks Draftkings daily fantasy Formula 1

Justin Carter's DraftKings and FanDuel DFS lineup picks for the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix. Read our daily fantasy F1 advice and sleepers analysis.

After the parade that was the Monaco Grand Prix two weeks ago, Formula 1 is in Canada this weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the Canadian Grand Prix. There's a lot of uncertainty heading into this race as numerous teams made upgrades since Monaco, and the starting lineup for this week's race illustrates that. George Russell on pole! Daniel Ricciardo in fifth! The Aston Martin cars were fast!

Hopefully we get a fun race this weekend. I know Monaco has a lot of history behind it, but when the top 10 drivers all finished exactly where they started two weeks ago, it gets kind of boring. Maybe Canada will change that.

Below you will find our Formula 1 DraftKings DFS lineup picks for the Canadian Grand Prix on 6/9/24, with the slate locking at 2:00 p.m. EDT. If you have any questions or want to talk about Formula 1, you can find me on Twitter at @juscarts.

How Does Formula 1 Fantasy Work?

Here's how the scoring and format work for F1 DFS on DraftKings. You'll pick five drivers and a constructor. One of those drivers will be your captain, who earns you 1.5 times the points but also costs 1.5 times as much as they usually cost. For the constructor, you're choosing one of the F1 teams.

So here's how the scoring works. Your driver only gets points if they finish in the top 10. Here's a chart for how that breaks down:

Finishing Spot DraftKings Points
1 25
2 18
3 15
4 12
5 10
6 8
7 6
8 4
9 2
10 1

In addition, the driver with the fastest lap of the race gets three points. You get 0.1 points per lap led, five points for beating your teammate, one point for being classified at the finish (finished 90% of the race, essentially), and points for place differential.

Finish three spots higher than your grid position and you get two points. Finish five better and you get three points. Finish 10 better to get five points. You also lose points for a negative place differential, starting at three spots.

The constructor points work the same way, with some added points if both cars do well. It's confusing, but for Formula 1 DFS to work, it probably had to be confusing. Now that we've gone over that, let's talk drivers. Here's what I've put together as a kind of base lineup.

Captain: George Russell ($12.3K)

Starts First

George Russell has Mercedes on pole for the first time this season as it looks like the team's upgrades heading into this weekend have produced some speed for this team. Both Mercedes were top 10 in FP1, then Russell jumped to second fastest in FP2 before the Mercedes were first and third in P3. Russell has finished ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton in all but two races this season as he appears to be the clear top driver for this Mercedes team now.

Constructor: Mercedes ($7.0K)

I like this stack here, because in addition to getting points if Russell's able to stick up near the front and lead some laps, you have a good shot at a double points finish with Lewis Hamilton starting this race in seventh place. I considered McLaren here as well because both cars qualified well, but ultimately think the price difference to drop down to Mercedes is too big to ignore, seeing as McLaren would cost you $11.8K.

You could also mix in some RB F1 Team at $3.2K with both cars starting in the top 10. I'll probably run a handful of lineups with them at Constructor just to give myself more flexibility elsewhere.

Max Verstappen ($15.0K)

Starts Second

I was completely prepared to fully fade Max Verstappen after a terrible day of practice on Friday, but this Red Bull machine found speed on Saturday, tying George Russell for the pole but losing out because Russell set his time first. With Verstappen's price starting to drop after he failed to win two of the last three races and finished a distant sixth at Monaco, he suddenly feels a lot more playable heading into a race where he starts on the front row. Even with Red Bull possibly losing a step, Verstappen can easily go out and dominate this race.

Fernando Alonso ($6.4K)

Starts Sixth

Aston Martin seemed to find some of the speed it has been lacking this weekend. After missing Q3 in three consecutive races, Fernando Alonso starts sixth for this race while teammate Lance Stroll has his first top 10 starting position since Australia back in March.

Now, Alonso will look to get his best result since his sixth-place finish in Japan back in April. He's finished outside the points two races in a row heading into this one, but even with some struggles he's been the best finishing Aston Martin in all but two races this season.

By the way, Stroll has some appeal as a sleeper option this weekend at $4.8K. He's not beating Alonso if Alonso has a normal race, but you never know what will happen, right?

Alexander Albon ($4.4K)

Starts 10th

Williams was expected to be a little better this season, as Alexander Albon has finished in the points just once so far this year, placing ninth in Monaco. But Albon's been the top-finishing Williams driver in all but one race, and that race was at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix when he finished last. I'm not sure Albon can stay in the points this weekend with two Ferraris starting right behind him, but he should have no trouble getting at least five points for beating Logan Sargeant.

Daniel Ricciardo ($4.2K)

Starts Fifth

Daniel Ricciardo's return to F1 can be described as middling at best, but the veteran starts fifth this weekend at a track where he's won before. Could this be the weekend that this RB F1 Team finally gets a good result from their second driver? Ricciardo has yet to score points this year while teammate Yuki Tsunoda has finished in the points four times, but I'll take a shot at Ricciardo at this price this weekend with him starting three spots ahead of Tsunoda.
