Spring is a time of renewal, a time to clear the air, recharge the batteries and clean out the closets.
Or our Top 10 list.
With Spring approaching, we've rearranged our Top 10 a bit, to prepare for the postseason. Here are our CBB rankings for the week of March 7, 2016 (won-loss records are as of the time of this writing).
NCAA College Basketball (CBB) Rankings
1. Kansas, 25-4
Writer William Burroughs lived in Lawrence, and he became rather infamous for a game of William Tell gone wrong (Google it, kids). But there isn't a team out there (yet) that can shoot the Jayhawks out of our top spot. Power forward Perry Ellis (16.5 PPG) should prove his worth over the next few weeks.
2. North Carolina, 23-6
Similarly, the Tar Heels have done nothing to show they are not worthy of a high ranking. A win at Duke is still worth something on Tobacco Road. Forward Brice Johnson (16.8 PPG, 10.8 RPG) seems to be peaking at the right time.
3. Virginia, 22-6
The Hoovs are on a roll. They have won three in a row and appear to be a contender heading into the ACC tournament. Cavaliers guard Malcolm Brogdon (18.4 PPG) has been coming up big lately as well.
4. Michigan State, 24-5
We haven't always invited Sparty to the party, but Tom Izzo's team is also heading into March on a high note. Spartans senior guard Denzel Valentine (19.6 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 7.5 APG) does everything well--and by the end of March he may have cutting down nets mastered, too.
5. Miami, 24-6
The Hurricanes don't have a Valentine-esque "stud," but they have a bunch of guys who play a solid team game. Junior guard Davon Reed (11.3 PPG) has been coming on lately.
6. Villanova, 25-4
We've never been particularly high on the Big East's best, but a 25-4 record is hard to ignore.
7. Xavier, 25-4
Ditto the X-men. We're not sure where either of these Big East teams will be at the end of the month, but in the Musketeers' case, they'll need sophomore guard Trevon Bluiett (15.2 PPG, 6.4 RPG) to lead them there.
8. Oklahoma, 22-6
The Sooners have remained in our rankings all season, really on the strength of one player (Buddy Hield). Senior guard Isaiah Cousins (13 PPG, 4.6 APG), though, is emerging as a leader at the point.
9. Oregon, 23-6
We only started swimming with the Ducks a few weeks ago, but we dig forward Elgin Cook (14.3 PPG, 4.9 RPG).
10. Indiana, 23-6
Louisville's loss (postseason ban) is the Hoosier's gain. Plus, how can you not like guard Yogi Ferrell (17.1 PPG, 5.5 APG)?
