The first two rounds of the NCAA tournament have not only laid waste to our office pool brackets, they've done a number on our Top 10 as well.
Still, for regular readers, there will be some familiar teams on this list--particularly at the top.
Here are our CBB rankings for the week of March 22, 2016 (won-loss records are as of the time of this writing).
NCAA College Basketball (CBB) Rankings
1. Kansas, 30-4
So far, so good. Power forward Perry Ellis (16.9 PPG/5.9 RPG) and the Jayhawks remain on schedule for a spot in the Final Four. But Maryland awaits, and the Terps can be tough.
2. North Carolina, 30-6
The Tar Heels, too, remain in the mix, thanks in no small part to guard Joel Berry II (12.8 PPG/3.4 RPG/3.4 APG). But as with the Jayhawks, a tough Big Ten opponent, Indiana, is on the horizon.
3. Virginia, 28-7
Napoleon had his Waterloo, Tom Izzo his Middle Tennessee, and thus the 'Hoovs move up to the third spot. We've liked London Perrantes (10.9 PPG/3.0 RPG/4.3 APG) most of the year, though, and a date with another of our faves, Iowa State is approaching.
4. Oregon, 30-6
The Ducks also benefit from Sparty's demise, and Elgin Cook (14.5 PPG/5.1 RPG) et al have now got to dance with Duke to prove the belong.
5. Oklahoma, 27-7
Buddy Hield (25.4 PPG) is still the man, and he's been coming up big in big games so far this postseason. Until teams can stop him, there's no reason to stop the Sooners' rise in the rankings.
6. Villanova, 31-5
The Wildcats have more than made up for their untimely demise in the Big East tournament so far in the Big Dance. Daniel Ochefu (9.8 PPG/7.8 RPG/1.6 BPG) has been inconsistent of late, though, and Miami may punish him if that continues.
7. Miami, 27-7
Speaking of the Hurricanes, their own A-Rod--Angel Rodriguez (12.6 PPG/4.4 APG) has a chance to prove his worth against 'Nova.
8. Indiana, 27-7
No, Yogi, the Ranger isn't coming, but Roy Williams and the Tar Heels are. Will IU's Yogi, Ferrell (17.1 PPG/5.6 APG), have enough in his, uh, basket to get it done?
9. Maryland, 27-8
We've been underselling the Terps and the Big Ten most of the season. Were we wrong to do so? We'll leave it to Kansas to decide.
10. Duke, 25-10
The team everybody loves to hate--or love--depending on where they earned their degree. Coach K's team is young this time around, but they may be maturing at the right time.
