There is no "I" in team.
But, as "Leon" in those old beer commercials once pointed out, to Joe Buck, "There ain't no 'we' neither." (Look it up on Youtube.)
Still, the collective at Gonzaga may be proving "Leon" wrong. They certainly are proving a lot of others wrong, as they keep on winning.
Here are our CBB rankings for the week of February 20th (won-loss records in parentheses).
NCAA College Basketball (CBB) Rankings
1. Gonzaga, (28-0)
Jay Bilas, be-damned, the Selection Committee will have to give the 'Zags a number-one seed, provided they make it through the rest of their schedule unscathed.
2. Villanova, (26-2)
Remember 'Nova? We sure do. They have a tough slate to finish out the regular season (Butler, Creighton), and then there is the Big East Tournament. But as long as Josh Hart (18.8 PPG, 6.5 RPG) is still Josh Hart...
3. Kansas, (24-3)
The Jayhawks outlasted Baylor in the most recent Battle of the Big 12, and freshman Josh Jackson (16.5 PPG, 6.9 RPG) looks like he's ready for the NBA already.
4. Arizona, (25-3)
By next week, we'll know which team is the Pac-12 El Pr1mo. The Wildcats and UCA face off on Saturday. Until then, we give the nod to the team from Tuscon, because they've done it without star guard Alonzo Trier (12.9 PPG) for most of the season.
5. UCLA, (24-3)
Unfortunately for the Bruins, the match-up against Arizona is in Tuscon, so their stay at No. 5 may be short. Fabulous frosh T.J. Leaf (16.7 PPG, 8.7 RPG) has faded a bit.
6. Oregon, (24-4)
Whichever team loses in Tuscon, the Ducks are ready to pounce. Can ducks pounce? Anyway, forward Dillon Brooks' numbers (15.4 PPG) are finally trending upward. Quack, quack.
7. Baylor, (22-5)
Oh yeah... Da Bears. They lost two games this week. A slump or a case of an over-achieving team coming back down to earth? Either way, forward Johnathan Motley (16.8 PPG, 9.5 RPG) is still somewhere in the stratosphere.
8. Kentucky, (22-5)
We were about to write off these Wildcats, but then they won four in a row, including an impressive win at Georgia on Saturday. Malik Monk (21.4 PPG) had Dick Vitale screaming "Diaper Dandy" for good reason. He had 16 points, 5 assists and 3 steals against the Bulldogs.
9. North Carolina, (23-5)
The Tar Heels won both their games this week, but we dropped them a spot because, well, they still have to face Duke once more. And we're not confident they'll win this time either.
10. Duke (22-5)
Suddenly, the Blue Devils have won seven in a row, and nobody's talking about Grayson Allen's "tripping" defense anymore. Oh by the way... Allen is averaging 15.4 PPG, 4.3 RPG and 4.0 APG. He can trip for us anytime.
