There are plenty of polls for NCAA College Basketball Rankings - the Associated Press, ESPN, USA Today, to name a few. But none look at the top college basketball teams in the land from the perspective of the fantasy hoops player.
So which CBB teams rate in the Top 10, according to fantasy metrics? Each week, we'll be bringing you our top 10 NCAA college basketball teams in the nation.
Below are our CBB rankings for the week of January 27, 2016 (won-loss records are as of the time of this writing).
NCAA College Basketball (CBB) Rankings
1. Oklahoma, 16-2
The Sooners top our list--and most polls--for the second week in a row. Senior guard Buddy Hield is the star in Norman, but senior forward Ryan Spangler is the workhorse in the middle (10.6 PPG and 9.9 RPG).
2. Kansas, 16-3
The Jayhawks have done nothing to warrant our dropping them down a spot, so they stay in the second slot. Their balanced, high-scoring offense is led by senior forward Perry Ellis (16.7 PPG). He'll be able to afford Perry Ellis suits playing at the next level next season.
3. North Carolina, 18-2
Roy Williams' team did themselves no harm this week either, winning both of their games in the vaunted ACC. There are so many players to like on the Tar Heels, but junior forward Isaiah Hicks makes the most of his relatively limited minutes.
4. Villanova, 17-2
Okay, it's taken us a while, but we're officially on the 'Nova bandwagon now. At 6-3, junior guard Josh Hart leads the Wildcats in scoring and rebounding, proving you don't have to be big to play big in the Big East.
5. Providence, 17-3
We'll stay in the Big East and show Ed Cooley's team some love. The charismatic coach started his career at your humble reporter's alma mater--Fairfield--so we have a soft spot for him. But the Friars continue to play well, too, with sophomore forward Rodney Bullock maturing into a real player.
6. West Virginia, 16-3
"Press Virginia" there is a Santa Claus, and if you're looking for steals, the Mountaineers are a gift that keeps on giving, with a slew of players producing one to two steals per game.
7. Texas A&M, 17-2
Like most of the polls, we've been ignoring the Aggies until recently, but with senior guard Jalen Jones leading the way (17.5 PPG), they are making a statement in the SEC.
8. Maryland, 17-3
We still think the Big 10 is top-heavy, but Maryland may be proving they belong at the top. Five Terps are averaging in double figures in scoring, led by sophomore guard Melo Trimble (14.5 PPG), who wins Name of the Week honors, if nothing else. Fear the Turtle--but which one?
9. Michigan State, 17-4
The bloom is off the Spartans' rose, but we still see them as a factor come March. Senior guard Denzel Valentine is a machine.
10. Arizona, 16-4
I'm still high on the Wildcats, even as they drop in conventional polls. They are not the most exciting team in the country, but freshman guard Allonzo Trier is emerging as a real player.
