Fantasy College Basketball CBB Rankings: NCAA Top 10 (02/07/18)

We get bored easily.

It's one of our many flaws. It leads to a lot of channel-surfing, and a lot of unfinished business.

And so, we were a bit concerned as we put together our Top 10 for this week. There are not a lot of changes, at least at the top, and that has left us a bit uninspired.

With that in mind, here are the Rotoballer college hoops rankings as of February 7, 2018 (won-loss records in parentheses).

 

NCAA College Basketball (CBB) Rankings

1. Villanova, (22-1)

The Wildcats are still the best team in the land... Bored yet? Not if you're in Philly, where it's a good time to be a local sports fan. It will be interesting to see if 'Nova misses guard Phil Booth (11.6 PPG/3.3 RPG/3.2 APG), who is injured.

2. Virginia, (22-1)

Speaking of boring, the Cavs won't remind anyone of Jerry Tarkanian's UNLV teams anytime soon, but that's fine by them. Guard Devon Hall (12.1 PPG/4.2 RPG/3.1 APG) is a smart--and effective--player.

3. Purdue, (23-2)

With no changes at the top of our rankings, we know we run the risk of readers' eyes glazing over. So be it. Purdue deserves to be here, thanks in part to P.J. Thomas (1.4 SPG), who is a stout defender.

4. Xavier, (22-3)

Officially, at least, the race in the Big East is not over. The Musketeers are just a game behind Villanova in the standings, and forward Kerem Kanter is helping them stay in contention, by averaging 10.7 PG and 5.2 RPG in just 16.4 minutes per contest.

5. Michigan State, (23-3)

Question: What accomplishes nothing and never changes? Answer: Congress. Well, that and our Top 10. Yep, the Spartans stay at No. 5, but do they have the depth needed to make a deep run in March? Right now, their rotation is seven, at most eight, deep. A word to the wise when it comes to bracket time.

6. Cincinnati, (22-2)

Okay, now things are getting interesting... Well, not really. But if you're still awake, the Bearcats move up a spot thanks to Duke's misstep in NYC (see below). And what they lack in star power, they make up for in depth.

7. Gonzaga, (21-4)

The 'Zags also benefit from Duke's loss, moving up a spot. And speaking of depth, the Bulldogs have six guys averaging in double figures in scoring. Of them, Japanese forward Rui Hachimura may be the most intriguing, as he's averaging 11.1 PPG and 4.4 RPG in just 19.6 minutes per contest.

8. St. Mary's, (23-2)

We'll stay in the WCC, and bump the Gaels up, too, while we're at it. Point guard Emmett Naar is our one to watch on this team, as he's averaging 10.8 PPG and 9.0 APG.

9. Auburn, (21-2)

The Tigers also move up a spot, thanks to another win this week. We really like guard Mustapha Heron (15.6 PPG/5.6 RPG/1.4 SPG).

10. Duke, (19-4)

And then there's the Blue Devils... As former St. John's basketball season ticket holders, boy we're surprised by the Dukies loss at MSG this week. A red flag or a bump in the road? Probably the latter, but since we've mentioned depth with a couple of teams, it's worth noting that Coach K's team is top heavy. Just something to keep an eye on as the postseason approaches...
