FanDuel MLB Lineup Picks (5/23/21): Daily Fantasy Baseball Advice

JorgePucks highlights the top FanDuel MLB DFS lineup picks for 5/23/21, and a couple of sleepers to consider while building daily rosters.

As is customary on Sundays, we have a very large slate to dissect with lots of batting and pitching options for us to consider. The arms aren't this best on this Sunday slate so we will need to figure out which one can get us a few strikeouts and a win while also choosing between some great offenses like Atlanta, Washington, New York, and Houston to choose from.

I'll be providing you with my daily fantasy baseball lineup picks for the FanDuel main slate on 5/23/2021. Be sure to also check out all the MLB player news, including late scratches, and the projected and confirmed daily MLB lineups for each DFS slate.

You can also check out today's DraftKings MLB DFS lineup picks, and read more DFS advice and lineup picks for other sports too. Let's get to it!

FanDuel DFS Pitchers

Cash Game/GPP Anchor Play:

Kris Bubic - KCR vs. KC ($7,000)

It has become a common thing to attack the Tigers any chance you can, and even more so when they are facing off against a lefty pitcher. Kris Bubic will be on the bump for the Royals and he has been very solid despite not recording a win just yet. On the season Bubic has pitched 18.2 innings and has only given up two runs which came in his first outing of the season. Bubic has seen these Tiger batters earlier this season as he went five innings and struck out six hitters while walking four batters. Detroit is hitting .211 as a team against lefties and has the lowest home run total against this handedness (five home runs) so Bubic looks to be in a fantastic spot based on his recent form, matchup, and pricing.

Alternate Play(s)

Hyun-Jin Ryu - TOR vs. TB ($8,400)

The Rays continue to struggle against left-handed pitching so we might as go right back to the well and consider Ryu against them on Sunday. Ryu is 4-2 on the season with a 2.51 ERA and comes into this matchup in really good form as he has won three straight starts while racking up 19 strikeouts in that three-game span. Ryu faced the Rays earlier this season and he had a modest outing as he recorded five strikeouts in only 3.2 innings pitched while giving up three hits and no runs. When looking at the last 14 days, the Rays are only batting .214 against lefties which is lower than their season average against lefties of .221.

FanDuel DFS Infielders

Freddie Freeman - 1B, ATL vs. PIT ($3,800)

Freeman is starting to heat up at the plate as he has recorded a hit in nine of his last 10 games played while also managing to hit three home runs during that stretch. He profiles well against right-handed pitching as he has a .296 ISO and a .429 XwOBA and faces a pitcher in Brubaker who has already coughed up three home runs to lefty batters this season.

DJ LeMahieu - 2B/3B NYY vs. CHW ($3,100)

The Yankees profile well against Keuchel so you might want to consider looking at the top of the order for a few of their hitters, preferably starting with DJ LeMahieu. The pricing on LeMahieu has come down a bit and at $3,100, he is very hard to pass up on in this matchup. He has a .219 ISO and a .528 slugging percentage against lefties while having a very low strikeout rate of just 12%. He sports an ISO of .200+ against Keuchel's changeup and sinker which he throws to righties over 60% of the time.

Mike Brosseau - 2B/3B, TBR @ TOR ($2,200)

If you're needing a value play, you could consider rostering Mike Brosseau if he cracks the starting lineup. Brosseau has seen playing time against lefty-pitchers this year and while his batting average is down against this handedness, he does have some pop in his bat as he has three home runs and a .242 ISO against lefties. Ryu throws a plethora of pitches but his main three to righties are his fastball, changeup, and cutter, and Brosseau profiles best against his fastball and changeup as he has a .250+ ISO and a .387+ XwOBA against both of those pitch types.

Trea Turner, SS, WSH vs. BAL ($4,000)

Turner is just a tough out for any pitcher and with how well he has been swinging the bat recently, it is tough to not play him any chance you get. Turner has recorded a hit in eight out of his last 10 games played and is batting .293 on the season when it comes to facing right-handed pitchers. Matt Harvey will be on the bump for the Orioles today and he has actually gotten roughed up by right-handed batters as they are hitting .327 against him with a .495 slugging percentage. Harvey throws his fastball 44% of the time to right-handed batters and Turner profiles well against this pitch as he has a.415 XwOBA and a .218 ISO against this pitch type.

FanDuel DFS Outfielders

Aaron Judge - OF, NYY vs. CHW ($3,600)

Judge just continues to rake as he has recorded a hit in 11 out of his last 12 games and seems under-priced as he sits at $3,600 on FD. Judge is batting .395 against lefty-pitchers this season and is sporting a .326 ISO and a .566 XwOBA against this handedness. Keuchel throws three main pitches to righties (changeup, cutter, sinker) and Judge profiles very well against these pitches as he has an ISO of .219+ against all three pitches and has an XwOBA of .457+ against all three pitch types as well.

Marcell Ozuna - ATL vs. PIT ($2,800)

Ozuna is more of a tournament play and is worth considering anytime he falls below the $3,000 mark on FD. Despite his struggles on the year, Ozuna has five of his seven home runs off of right-handed pitching and sports a 46% hard-hit percentage off of this handedness. In today's game against TJ Brubaker, Brubaker primarily throws his slider and sinker over 70% of the time against righties and Ozuna sports a .395 XwOBA against both of these pitch types.

Anthony Santander - OF, BAL @ WSH ($2,000)

FD definitely got the pricing wrong yet again as Santander should draw into the Oriole's lineup and he is at the min. pricepoint of just $2,000. Santander had a big return yesterday as he went 3-4 with a home run and three runs scored so the upside is there. He has a .213 ISO against lefty pitchers this year and looks really good against Corbin's sinker as he has a .565 ISO and a .537 XwOBA against this pitch which Corbin throws 37% of the time against right-handed batters.
