FanDuel, DraftKings NHL DFS Lineup Picks (2/4/20): Daily Fantasy Hockey Advice

Tuesday features an immense 13-game main slate with Montreal in New Jersey, Nashville in Winnipeg, and a gong show clash between Los Angeles and Washington.

Remember, when looking around for plays, an over/under of 6 dictates offense, but an over/under of 5 or sometimes 5.5 tilts towards the goalies. There are several games at 6.5, as that has become the new norm in hockey now.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 2/4/20. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @ChrisWasselDFS. Let's get to it, shall we?

DFS Forwards to Consider

Nathan MacKinnon - C, COL vs BUF (FD - $8,800, DK - $8,500)

MacKinnon is too easy of a pick here and can be stacked with players like Ryan Graves or Ian Cole to save some money. Buffalo has a penalty kill that is just 74.5% on the season (26th in the NHL) and their home penalty kill is less than 74%. Colorado should be able to muster enough offense from their top line and special teams against the Sabres tonight. MacKinnon has six goals, 14 points, and 47 shots on goal in his last ten games. That comes along with a whopping 35 scoring chances.

Filip Forsberg - W, NSH vs WPG (FD - $7,600, DK - $6,700)

The winger gets shots on net to the tune of over three per contest. Forsberg has managed points in 12 of his 15 Tuesdays played (20 points in that span). Despite his doughnut over the weekend, the Nashville forward faces a Winnipeg team that yields 3.25 goals per game over the previous 12 home games. Winnipeg's penalty kill is around 70% in that span as well. Forsberg has four power-play points over his previous nine games. There may be higher-priced options but Forsberg is in that good of a spot.

Also, Consider:

  • Leon Draisaitl is listed as a C on both DraftKings and FanDuel and Patrice Bergeron is a good option as well on Tuesday night.
  • Taylor Hall becomes an excellent option on Tuesday but watch Brendan Gallagher from Montreal. Also, Alex Ovechkin can be played in some lineups.

DFS Defenders to Consider

Alex Pietrangelo - D, STL vs CAR (FD - $6,700, DK - $6,600)

This is a solid option on Tuesday partially because St. Louis is home at last. The Blues also score a bit more at home at a rate of 3.32 goals per game. Pietrangelo's DFS numbers are lower at home surprisingly but this is a better matchup -- partially because Carolina gives up more scoring chances on the road (2.82 goals per contest). The Blues have lost four of five allowing 21 goals in this span so a correction is likely. That could be led by someone like Pietrangelo.

Ryan Pulock - D, NYI vs DAL (FD - $4,700, DK - $4,600)

Pulock has seen his floor improve over the past ten games. He suddenly has 22 shots on net in that span and quite a few assists with several posts hit. The increased shot volume is nice but now he is averaging nearly 2 blocks a game too. That combined floor of around 4 shots and blocked shots per night is an improvement. If Pulock could just score a goal, that would do wonders for his confidence and DFS aspirations going forward.

  • Simply Joakim Ryan for Los Angeles is a low-priced wild card playing top minutes possibly due to Drew Doughty injury concerns.
  • Ben Chiarot is getting top minutes with a good floor. Jeff Petry has to be considered also along with Oskar Klefbom.
  • Yes, Quinn Hughes is on our radar even with Vancouver playing in Boston. He has been too good and still too low-priced.

DFS Goalie to Consider

MacKenzie Blackwood - G, NJ vs MTL  (FD - $7,200, DK - $7,400)

The best performances from Blackwood arguably this season have come against the Montreal Canadiens. He nearly made 50 saves once. Typically, Montreal has exceeded 35+ shots against New Jersey in five of their previous seven meetings. The New Jersey goalie struggled mightily against Nashville last Thursday but to be fair almost everyone did. Tonight's game expects to feature plenty of shots and scoring chances allowed from both sides. The saves bonus on DraftKings could be in play.

  • The other good GPP choice on Tuesday night is simply Elvis Merzlikins. He has won six straight starts for Columbus and looks poised for a seventh consecutive win against Florida. Also, take a look at Robin Lehner if he starts against Minnesota for the same reason.
