FanDuel, DraftKings NHL DFS Lineup Picks (12/29/18): Daily Fantasy Hockey

Tom Vecchio's top NHL DFS lineup picks on FanDuel, DraftKings for 12/29/18. Expert daily fantasy hockey advice, sleepers & player recommendations.

NHL is back after a few days off and we have an 11-game slate to break down. There are a ton and I mean a ton of options across the board, so if you are rolling out multiple lineups, this is the slate you should be excited about.

Vegas lines are big when it comes to picking games to target, and that's a good place to start for goalies. When it comes to skaters, goal totals is another main place to start. Usually, 5.5 goals are average, so targets game at six, and can look for goalies in games with a total at five.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 12/29/18. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @DFS_Tom. Let's get to it, shall we?

DFS Forwards to Consider

Alex Ovechkin - W, WAS @ OTT (FD - $8,900, DK - $8,000)

Ovechkin and the Capitals are going to be one of the most popular teams on the slate, but you should be willing to eat that chalk tonight. The Senators come in with a 67.42 Corsi Against this season, meaning they are giving up an insane amount of shots, which should play right into the strong suit for the Capitals. Anytime you can get Ovi in a spot where he is able to rack up the chances at the net, you should be taking it. He has hat-trick potential tonight due to how favorable this matchup is.

Alex Galchenyuk - C, ARI @ ANH (FD - $5,400, DK - $3,600)

Galchenyuk is very cheap on both sites and is cash game viable tonight, which will allow you to pay up for a few big stars. The Coyotes are up against the Ducks, who have a 61 Corsi Against this season, which is second worst in the league, so yet another good spot to rack up the shots. He has four points in his last three games, 10 shots in that span, and on the first forward line. All great things for a player who is this cheap.

DFS Defenders to Consider

Ryan Ellis - D, NSH vs NYR (FD - $4,800, DK - $4,600)

Ellis is seeing time on time on the first defensive pairing and the first power-play unit, giving him a fantastic upside, along with a very solid floor. The floor of points comes from the fact he is averaging nearly two shots and two blocked shots per game. That is tremendous production from a player who is under $5K on both sites, which should make him cash game viable tonight. Love the matchup versus the Rangers, who are giving up over three goals per game.

Alexander Edler - D, VAN @ CGY (FD - $4,600, DK - $4,700)

Edler has been back from his injury for over a month and his price has yet to truly change, which is a good thing. He comes in with almost two shots per game, along with nearly three blocked shots per game, which is insanely productive. This is a player who can reach value and not even have to score a real NHL point, which is fantastic for really any format, because if he does fall into a point, he will crush the point per dollar value.

DFS Goalies to Consider

Andrei Vasilevskiy - G, TB vs MON (FD - $9,000, DK - $8,300)

Vasilevskiy and the Lightning come in as massive -240 favorites, which means we should be looking at him for cash game tonight since the win is almost certain here. He is very, very expensive on both sites, but paying up for the win is what you want to do in cash games, so the usual, don't get cute spot. I will say if you are looking to fade him in tournaments, you could have a bit of an edge, not only since he is expensive, but for the fact, he has allowed three or more goals in three of his last four games.
