We have a 12-game slate to look at tonight and we are starting to get a few games into the season, so we should be able to start looking at some more stats soon. Personally, I like Corsi For, which is an advanced shot metric shot which can help identify offensive opportunity.
Vegas lines are big when it comes to picking games to target, and that's a good place to start for goalies. When it comes to skaters, goal totals is another main place to start. Usually, 5.5 goals are average, so targets game at six, and can look for goalies in games with a total at five.
In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 11/1/18. DFS Forwards to Consider
John Tavares - C, TOR (FD - $8,200, DK - $7,500)
With Auston Matthews going on the DL, Tavares should be tasked with carrying the offense just a bit more. This puts him in a spot where we can expect some potential inconsistency from him, but the ceiling on his games could be massive. The matchup tonight isn't ideal, but using him as a GPP play only could be the right way to go. His use on the first forward line and first power-play are where we want to see him.
Tomas Hertl - W, SJ vs CLS (FD - $5,700, DK - $5,900)
As I mentioned the other day, the Blue Jackets are seemingly deciding to not play defense this season, which is fine since we can target them in DFS. Hertl and the Sharks are a popular option regardless of matchup, but this one should be a bit more than usual. Hertl is on a seven-game point streak with three goals and eight assists. He is super hot right and playing on the second forward line and second power-play unit.
DFS Defenders to Consider
Ryan McDonagh - D, TB vs NSH (FD - $4,900, DK - $4,500)
McDonagh is coming off his best game of the season where he had one goal and two assists, but we haven't seen his price move too much. He is now on the second power-play unit due to the injured Victor Hedman, so when we are getting an expanded role for him at the same price, you should be willing to roster him every night.
Erik Johnson - D, COL @ CGY (FD - $4,600, DK - $4,100)
Johnson is very fairly priced across the industry and comes in averaging over 4.50 shots and blocked shots per game. This gives him a solid floor of points, which should make him a viable cash game option on the slate. He is also on the second power-play, which is what gives him a reasonable ceiling.
DFS Goalies to Consider
John Gibson - G, ANH vs NYR (FD - $8,300, DK - $8,400
Gibson comes in as a -152 home favorite tonight, which should make him one of the more popular cash games goalies on the slate. He is up against the Rangers, who aren't close to being a complete or truly threatening team. They also don't generate a ton of shot attempts, so he shouldn't face too much danger, especially with the solid defense he has in front of him.
