FanDuel, DraftKings NHL DFS Lineup Picks (1/21/20): Daily Fantasy Hockey Advice

Tuesday features a five-game main slate with a spotlight on games like New York and New York, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, plus even Florida and Chicago among others.

Remember, when looking around for plays, an over/under of 6 dictates offense, but an over/under of 5 or sometimes 5.5 tilts towards the goalies. There are several games at 6.5, as that has become the new norm in hockey now.

In this article, I will be providing you with my daily fantasy hockey lineup picks for DraftKings and FanDuel on 1/21/20. The lineup picks will range from some of the elite players to mid-priced options and value plays. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @ChrisWasselDFS. Let's get to it, shall we?

DFS Forwards to Consider

Sidney Crosby - C, PIT vs PHI (FD - $8,500, DK - $7,500)

Crosby only played once against Philadelphia this season and the good news is the two teams will face each other several times over the second half of the season. He had a goal and two assists in his only game against the Flyers. The Pittsburgh center has eight points in four games since his return from sports hernia surgery (missed 28 games). His price is not terrible and Philadelphia will not have the services of Carter Hart (out with abdominal strain).

Max Pacioretty - W, VGK vs BOS (FD - $7,500, DK - $6,600)

The winger gets shots on net to the tune of over five per contest. Boston has struggled some defensively of late and though they allow just 2.52 goals per game, that number balloons to just over three in the last dozen games. It just seems nothing has come easy for Boston lately. Pacioretty is in a good spot and likely will again avoid the Patrice Bergeron line which is good news for DFS owners.

Also, Consider:

  • Mika Zibanejad and Patrice Bergeron are solid plays as always on Tuesday night. Aleksander Barkov against Chicago is intriguing as well.
  • Artemi Panarin and Jonathan Huberdeau are nice options on Tuesday from the wing position. Patrick Kane may be higher-owned than expected.

DFS Defenders to Consider

Tony DeAngelo - D, NYR vs NYI (FD - $4,900, DK - $4,700)

This is a moderate risk play but DeAngelo did score in his last game against the New York Islanders. He has 3+ shots on net in three of his last four games and that gives him a decent floor on Tuesday. The Islanders often get drawn into the Rangers' pace of play (especially at MSG). DeAngelo's price has curbed back a bit as it was over $5,000 for awhile there. The Rangers' power play has been buoyed by the contributions of DeAngelo of late.

Ryan Pulock - D, NYI vs NYR (FD - $4,600, DK - $5,000)

Pulock has seen his floor improve dramatically over the last few weeks. He suddenly has 23 points on the season on six goals (113 shots on net). The increased shot volume is nice but now Pulock is averaging nearly two blocks a game too. That combined floor of around 4.5 shots and blocked shots per night is an improvement. If Pulock ever sees ice time as he did in the last Rangers meeting (26+ minutes), then expect more results.

  • Simply Jaccob Slavin is a nice option against Winnipeg on Tuesday night.
  • Brady Skjei is a decent alternative as well as Josh Morrissey tonight for more value defensemen.

DFS Goalie to Consider

Petr Mrazek - G, CAR vs WPG  (FD - $8,100, DK - $8,500)

The idea is to think the highest goalie win probability. It likely will be Carolina on Tuesday in a must-win type of home game against Winnipeg. The Jets' special teams are well below average --, especially on the penalty kill. Winnipeg again can easily generate 30+ shots on the road (they are five over .500 away from home). That plays into the decision to try Mrazek (IF he starts). Confirmations are tough to come by during the bye weeks sometimes. Keep that in mind. If Mrazek does not start, James Reimer is an even better choice.

Also, Consider:

  • The other good GPP choice on Tuesday night may be whoever starts for the New York Rangers. Again, see if Tristan Jarry starts for Pittsburgh in a moderate-risk GPP scenario.
