Welcome back, RotoBallers! Finally, we see the return of the English Premier League. A competition that I know a lot about, in fact here across the pond we just call it the Premier League!
In this article, I will be providing you with my English Premier League daily fantasy soccer lineup picks for DraftKings on 6/19/20 for the slate that locks at 1:00 pm ET. Be sure to also check out our other DFS lineup picks for other active sports.
The DraftKings DFS slate is for two games, and below I'll give a quick preview of each of them (so you know what to expect) and then move onto some names to consider for your lineups. If you aren't familiar with how players score in soccer on DraftKings take a look at their scoring methodology. And to submit a lineup you need to select 1 Goalkeeper, 2 Defenders, 2 Midfielders, 2 Forwards, and a Utility player (most likely a Midfielder/ Forward). You can always find me on Twitter @RichKingFF if you have any questions. Good luck RotoBallers!
English Premier League DFS Lineup Picks - Matchups Overview
Norwich v Southampton
Norwich returns to action looking to avoid relegation, and a win in this game would be a big step towards that goal. Norwich is at the bottom of the league, due to their leaky defense and attack-first mentality. Meanwhile, Southampton was struggling for form before the stop in the league. They lost four of their last five games, but have one of the best records on the road in the league. One thing is for certain, both teams like to attack, meaning goals are likely.
Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United
This is a tasty fixture, just because of the sub-plot. This is the return of Jose Mourinho to Old Trafford after he was let go by the team. Equally, there are a number of star players that should now be available for selection. Tottenham welcomes back Harry Kane and Son Heung-min to their attack but miss Deli Alli through suspension. For the visitors, they are able to call upon Paul Pogba and political headline-grabber Marcus Rashford. I'd expect a close game, with a few goals thrown in. Now let's take a look at some of my top DraftKings DFS selections for the week!
DraftKings DFS Midfielders / Forwards
You'll see in going through the slate that there are lots of players that have dual eligibility to be in your midfield or forward slot. Here you are looking for players that are constant scoring threats, as well as players that get involved in wide areas where they can put crosses in.
As elite options, you can't look further than Tottenham's Harry Kane ($9,200) or Manchester United's Marcus Rashford ($9,000). Kane is the focal point of the entire attack for Tottenham and is the favorite to score for the team. Rashford might not be relied upon as much as Kane, but he is a potent attacking weapon for the team.
In the same game, you could pivot to Lucas Moura ($6,700) or Paul Pogba ($5,900). Moura possesses a great amount of pace and has shown an ability to come up big in key games. Whereas, Pogba is the key that Manchester United rely upon to unlock teams in the midfield, and gets forward for the team too.
If you are looking to balance out your exposure to one game, there are a few options you could use in the Norwich v Southampton game.
For Southampton, you could opt for any of Danny Ings ($7,900), James Ward-Prowse ($7,300), or Nathan Redmond ($6,000). Of all of them, Ward-Prowse probably has the safer floor, due to his involvement in set-pieces, but has limited upside. Ings and Redmond are both goal-scoring threats, who the team looks to in wide areas and in the opposition box.
With Norwich's attacking options you don't need to look any further than Emiliano Buendia ($7,200) or Teemu Pukki ($5,400). Both players are key attacking options for the team and will be looking to get on the score sheet.
DraftKings DFS Defenders
Defenders are where it starts to get interesting. In an ideal world, you want a defender who has a good chance of keeping a clean sheet while getting involved in attacking play. This slate doesn't have a team that looks like it will have a good chance to keep a clean sheet, so it's a case of looking at wing-backs.
Here is a trio that is worth strong consideration. Ryan Bertrand ($5,000), Aaron Wan-Bissaka ($4,700), and Max Aarons ($4,500) all have a similar outlook. The three of them are all used by their team in wide areas, putting in crosses for their team with an outside opportunity of getting on the scoresheet. It's worth noting that Bertrand is used in set-pieces and that is the reason he is slightly more than the others.
If you need a real outside shot to save some salary, then you could opt for Harry Maguire ($3,500). Maguire is a set-piece threat and often gets forward for corners and free-kicks, meaning he has an opportunity to score for the team if given space.
DraftKings DFS Goalkeepers
As with defenders, there isn't a team that seems like it'll be favorite to keep a clean sheet. So, I'd be looking for players that are likely to be to get a decent number of saves and spend down at the position. Hugo Lloris ($4,600) or Tim Krul ($4,500) are both cheap plays worth considering. Out of the two of them, I think I'd opt for Lloris as there are fewer goals expected in that game. But I'd try and get exposure to both if I'm playing multiple lineups.
And that's it! Any questions, you know where to find me otherwise Good Luck RotoBallers.
