ANALYSIS: Drew Hutchison currently has a record of 7-1 with a 5.33 ERA. How is this possible? Hutchison currently leads all of baseball in average run support, with 7.27 runs supplied per start by the Jays' sluggers. Hutchison also hasn't pitched nearly as poorly as his ERA indicates. His FIP sits at 3.93, buoyed by a 7.9 K/9 and better than 3-to-1 strikeout to walk ratio. At the very least he's a must-start at home, where he ranks 23rd in MLB among qualified starters (minimum 40 IP) with a 2.38 ERA. Hutch is pitching far better than his superficial stats would indicate and is usually a good bet for a W with the powerful Toronto lineup backing him.
