Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers are widely considered to be two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL right now, if not two of of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. When they have record performances, it isn't a surprise to many people. They have both done absolutely amazing things on the football field. But it is a surprise when one of those records is a career low in passing yards.
Let's start with the positive performance. Drew Brees tied an NFL record with seven passing touchdowns in the New Orleans' Saints' 52-49 win over the New York Giants. Brees had a field day against the Giants' porous passing defense, throwing the ball for 511 yards. In addition, Brees wasn't sacked once After a so-so start to the season, Brees' monster game has catapulted him back into the QB1 conversation, with a tasty matchup against the Tennessee Titans coming up next in Week 9.
Now to the record setting performance from Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers had the worst passing game of his career, throwing the ball for just 77 yards on 14-of-22 passing in Green Bay's 10-29 loss against the Denver Broncos . Denver's defense attacked Rodgers all night, culminating in a fourth quarter sack/safety against Rodgers. Rodgers' previous lowest passing yards total in a game he started was 142 yards in 2008. Sunday's game was clearly an anomaly for the All-Pro quarterback, and he will undoubtedly return to QB1 form in Week 9, albeit against Carolina's tough pass defense.
