Digging Deeper: Week 21 Waiver Wire Targets

Week 21, huh? Where has the time gone? In two short weeks, we'll have the NFL season back in full swing. That means it's time to put the pedal to the medal in your fantasy baseball leagues so that you can finish strong.

Unfortunately, Max's team has decided to do just that, and my team is missing in action. Please let me know if you see Xander Bogaerts or Daniel Murphy anywhere. It's now or never for my team, and while the waiver wire might not have what it takes to propel me back to first place, it doesn't hurt to try.

Because I'll be covering more players, my analysis will be shorter and to the point. Feel free to find me on Twitter @BellRoto and ask me to explain more personally. I'll be happy to do so, and I will even contort the waiver pick-up to your own team and situation. Best of luck to you all.

Digging Deeper: Week 21 Picks

Jed Lowrie (2B, OAK) - 15% owned in Yahoo! Leagues

The A's middle infielder is hot! Jed Lowrie is batting in the two, three, or four spot in the Oakland order, and he's putting together a nice month of August. He's the flavor of the month in the infield alongside Yangervis Solarte, and he has eight hits and two homers in the past seven games.

Nick Markakis (OF, ATL) - 15% owned in Yahoo! Leagues

Speaking of hot, Nick Markakis is having a revival this August in the heart of the Braves' order. It's anyone's guess how long this will last, but Markakis has five multi-hit games with two homers and nine RBI in his past 10 games.

Delino DeShields (OF, TEX) - 14% owned in Yahoo! Leagues

If it's steals and runs you need, Delino DeShields is providing plenty atop the Rangers' lineup. He's going all Billy Hamilton on us this month with six steals and nine runs in his past 10 contests.

Matt Belisle (RP, MIN) - 20% owned in Yahoo! Leagues

Somehow a closer is still 20% owned. If you're competing for saves in any way, Matt Belisle plays for a decent team in the Twins and is there for the taking in a large majority of leagues.

Edwin Jackson (SP, WAS) - 20% owned in Yahoo! Leagues

We've seen flashes of brilliance from Edwin Jackson before, and his recent form looks great for the Nationals. The run support is there too for those of you looking for wins. Jackson should probably be higher owned based on that fact alone.

Erasmo Ramirez (SP, SEA) - 13% owned in Yahoo! Leagues

Erasmo Ramirez has also looked good since his change of scenary, and he'll get some decent matchups in good parks while playing for Seattle. There are worse options than Ramirez when it comes to back-end starting pitchers.
