Daily Fantasy Baseball Streamers - Waiver Wire Picks for Wednesday 9/8

Top daily fantasy baseball streamers and waiver wire adds for 9/8/21. Juan Carlos Blanco identifies MLB hitters and starting pitchers to stream based on matchups.

Fantasy managers in daily leagues no doubt have holes to fill. The easiest way to do that is with streamers. Fortunately, RotoBaller has you covered with daily streaming picks.

Each day, RotoBaller will provide you with some of the best fantasy baseball streaming picks - options to consider in fantasy baseball daily leagues. Additionally, these recommendations can be useful for fantasy managers setting DFS lineups.

We have another one of our typical Wednesday split slates on tap, with six afternoon/early evening games preceding a nine-game night ledger. There's a good balance of strong and vulnerable pitching in play, which makes finding some good streaming hitters a fairly straightforward process. Additionally, there are a couple of solid arms that nevertheless can be targeted with certain bats due to the way the matchup lines up.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Roster percentages referenced are from Yahoo! leagues.

Hitter Streamers for 9/8 - Shallow Leagues

Enrique Hernandez (2B/SS/OF, BOS) 54% rostered

Matchup: vs. TAM LHP Shane McClanahan

Deploying Hernandez against a left-hander is never a bad idea, especially at Fenway Park. The veteran returned from the COVID-19 list Tuesday and went 0-for-5, but he could be right back into the swing of things against McClanhan, who's allowed 30 extra-base hits to right-handed hitters on the season. Hernandez has tagged southpaws at home for a .278 average, .881 OPS and .373 wOBA while striking out just 17.7 percent of the time in that split, and prior to his recent sabbatical, he enjoyed his best month of the season at the plate with a .305 average, .926 OPS and .400 wOBA in August.

Joey Wendle (2B/3B/SS, TAM) - 43% rostered

Matchup: @ BOS RHP Nathan Eovaldi

Wendle's matchup against Eovaldi may not be the most appealing on the surface, but there's a couple of reasons for optimism when digging deeper. To begin with, Wendle has been lethal on the road against right-handers, as evidenced by his .368/.411/.600 slash line, .426 wOBA and 179 wRC+ in that split. He's produced an elevated 25.6 percent line-drive rate in that sample as well, and a .429 average in 17 career plate appearances versus Eovaldi. Additionally, the Red Sox bullpen has had significant trouble against lefty bats at Fenway of late, pitching to a 7.36 ERA, .269 BAA and .326 wOBA in that split over the last month.

Brandon Belt (1B/OF, SFG) -30% rostered

Matchup: @ COL RHP Jon Gray

Belt faces a starter he knows well in Gray, and it's also worth noting the right-hander will be coming off the injured list due to a forearm issue to make Wednesday's Coors Field start. Belt boasts a .400 average, five doubles, two homers and only six strikeouts against Gray in 40 career encounters, and he's slugged 17 of his 21 home runs this season off right-handed pitching. He's also thrived at Coors Field this season with a .400 average, a double, two home runs and eight RBI (17 plate appearances), while Gray is coming off a month of August in which he pitched to a 6.55 ERA and .315 BAA across 22 innings.

Jeimer Candelario (1B/3B, DET) - 34% rostered

Matchup: @ PIT RHP Mitch Keller

The switch-hitting Candelario makes for good left-handed exposure to Keller, who's surrendered a .352 average, .407 wOBA, 2.18 WHIP and 6.01 xFIP to lefty bats at PNC Park. Candelario is well equipped to exploit those weaknesses, having posted an .853 OPS, .366 wOBA and .213 ISO against right-handed pitching on the road. He's also coming into Wednesday's matchup hot, forging a .346 average and 1.203 OPS over his first 30 plate appearances of September.

ALSO CONSIDER: Bobby Dalbec (1B/3B, BOS)- 31% rostered; Tyler Naquin (OF, CIN)- 55% rostered

Hitter Streamers for 9/8 - Deeper Leagues

Yan Gomes (C, OAK) - 12% rostered

Matchup: vs. CWS LHP Dallas Keuchel

Gomes has a strong career track record against left-handed pitching and sports a .307 average, .868 OPS and .362 wOBA against that handedness this season. The veteran backstop owns impressive 31.7 percent and 41.5 percent line-drive and hard-contact rates, respectively, versus southpaws as well, and he faces a hittable one in Keuchel, who's yielded a .300 average and .368 wOBA to right-handed hitters on the road. Keuchel has also surrendered .363 and .337 wOBAs with runners on base and runners in scoring position, respectively, and an .887 OPS to Gomes in 31 career encounters.

Jacob Stallings (C, PIT) - 6% rostered

Matchup: vs. DET RHP Matt Manning

Stallings makes for an intriguing right-handed streaming option versus Manning, who's given up a massive .354 average and .383 wOBA to right-handed hitters on the road, along with an elevated 26.8 percent line-drive rate and 39.3 percent hard-contact rate. Meanwhile, Stallings has been especially effective in same-handed matchups at home, where he boasts a .301 average, .853 OPS and .373 wOBA, along with a 26.4 percent line-drive rate. The backstop also checks into the matchup hot, as evidenced by his .350 average over the first five games of September.

Miguel Rojas (SS, MIA) - 13% rostered

Matchup: vs. NYM LHP Rich Hill

Rojas projects to be back in the starting lineup Wednesday after sitting Tuesday out with a shoulder injury, and if he indeed suits up, he'll be in a good position to capitalize on a matchup he often thrives in, namely, facing a southpaw at home. Rojas' handiwork versus lefties at LoanDepot Park this season includes a .391 average, 1.065 OPS, .458 wOBA and 194 wRC+, along with an elite 32.1 percent line-drive rate. For his part, Hill has surrendered 17 homers to right-handed hitters on the season, along with a .339 wOBA and 1.6 HR/9 when facing them on the road while with the Rays and Mets.

Austin Hays (OF, BAL)- 17% rostered

Matchup: vs. KCR LHP Mike Minor

Hays has been impressive against left-handed pitching all season, posting a .302/.341/.525 slash line and .367 wOBA in that split and a .274 ISO versus that handedness at home. Hays also checks into Wednesday wielding a red-hot bat that's seen him put together a 14-game hitting streak during which he's generated a .373 average and 1.071 OPS. Minor has allowed 24 homers to right-handed hitters, with 12 of those coming on the road, and he's given up a .346 wOBA, 1.9 HR/9 and 5.01 xFIP against righty bats when traveling as well.

Pitcher Streamers for 9/8 - Shallow Leagues

Vladimir Gutierrez (SP, CIN) - 43% rostered

Matchup:@ CHC RHP Alec Mills

Gutierrez has had a couple of stumbles in his last pair of trips to the mound, but he faces a vulnerable opponent that he's already enjoyed success against on multiple occasions this season. Gutierrez owns a 2.55 ERA and has allowed just a .242 wOBA over 17.2 innings versus the Cubs, and Chicago also checks in with an MLB-high 31.2 percent strikeout rate, .295 OBP, .294 wOBA and -7.2 wRAA against right-handers at home in the last month. Moreover, Gutierrez has been at his best on the road, where he boasts a 6-2 record and 3.58 ERA across 55.1 innings.

Pitcher Streamers for 9/8 - Deeper Leagues

Luke Weaver (SP, ARI) - 15% rostered

Matchup: vs. TEX RHP Kohei Arihara

Weaver made a highly successful return from a long absence due to a rotator cuff strain his last time out, holding the Padres to one earned run on four hits over six innings last Wednesday. He'll be well rested for Wednesday's start against the Rangers, which are averaging an AL-low 3.7 runs per road game and will not have the use of the DH in the NL park. Weaver has also been virtually unhittable over a 27.1-inning sample at home this season, forging a 3-0 record, 1.32 ERA and 0.80 WHIP. Additionally, the Rangers have been mostly punchless against right-handed pitching on the road of late, posting a .297 wOBA and -5.4 wRAA over the last month in that split.
