Cubs Acquire Austin Jackson From Mariners

The Chicago Cubs traded for Seattle Mariners outfielder Austin Jackson during a late-trade for the revocable waiver wire deadline.

Jackson, 28, was acquired along with cash in exchange for an international free agency bonus slot and either a player to be named later or $1 million.

The six-year veteran has a .272/.312/.387 batting line with 8 HR and 15 SB in 448 plate appearances this season. Jackson will be coming off the bench in Chicago, and could see a lot of his action against lefties. The right-handed bat has a 114 vs. 86 OPS+ when comparing lefties against righties during the second half of the season.

Jackson is riding a nine-game hitting streak while having 18 hits in 34 at-bats for a better than .500 BA. There might not be a better time this season for the Cubbies to acquire the veteran outfielder. He is eligible to be on the postseason roster since the deal was done prior to 11:59 p.m. ET on Monday. Jackson just needs to officially be placed on the Chicago roster to make it official.
