ANALYSIS: Chris Capuano’s best days are behind him. We’re quite a few years removed from Capuano’s 18-win campaign back in 2005. He hasn’t put together a winning season since. However, he’s just been called up from his rehab assignment and will immediately replace the newly injured Chase Whitley in the Yankees rotation.
You’re right to be skeptical of a guy who has barely been fantasy relevant in a decade, but his numbers on paper don’t necessarily justify his entire value. He was actually pretty solid for the Yankees last year and while he did post a mediocre 2-3 record and a 4.25 ERA, he mixed in 6 quality starts in his 12 appearances. He also posted a 37:4 K:BB ratio, which isn’t quite a Michael Pineda standard, but certainly worth a vote of confidence.
I’m not here to tell you to pounce on him on the waiver wire, but he could be worth a daily league look or even any quick spot-start/injury replacement in your deep league, depending on the matchup. The price will be dirt-cheap for both formats. The run support should continue to be there as the Yankees continue to impress and currently sit seventh in the league in that category. This means that even on a non-quality start, he still might pick up the win.
