BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team / AL-Only Leagues
OWNED IN: 5% of Fleaflicker Leagues
ANALYSIS: Once Scott Kazmir was moved out of town, the Oakland Athletics needed someone to step up and fill the void. Even though the A's are getting ready for the 2016 season, Chris Bassitt has been summoned to be that stop gap and he has not disappointed.
Since joining the rotation back in late June, Bassitt has compiled a 26:5 K/BB ratio while giving up 10 ER in 37 IP despite a 1-4 record. He racked up four QS during that time and has provided a nice jolt for a team that simply isn't scoring runs for him.
His 2.64 ERA for the season is slightly better than his career 3.10 ERA from his five seasons in the minors. However Bassitt's success is somewhat of a renaissance for someone who doesn't have an overpowering arsenal. His fastball touches 93 MPH while his curveball dips down around 70 MPH giving his lack of velocity an added deceptive quality.
His FIP rate of 3.68 still ranks above average and if he continues down the path he is currently on his career average of 3.55 should become even lower. His .93 GB/FB ratio leaves much to be desired but he is getting the job done and putting up solid and very appealing numbers for fantasy owners.
At only 5% owned, owners can easily pickup Bassitt off the waiver wire and get rid of underwhelming options that they might have held onto through the second half of this season. If you are an owner of the likes of Drew Hutchison, Collin McHugh or Matt Moore perhaps it is time to take a look at Bassitt for the rest of the season.
