Ah. Week 3 of the Waiver Wire... when April is beginning to head into May, the weather warming up even more - unless you live in Colorado and get three feet of snow dumped on you in the middle of the month - and certain players start heating up at the plate and showing they can be great waiver wire pickups. Actually, picking some of these players is still a huge gamble, but what's life without risk? That's what makes fantasy baseball so fun. Here's some choices for one-catcher leagues and two-catcher leagues.
We're still using anyone in Fleaflicker leagues who has below 50% ownership.
Week 3 Waiver Wire Catchers
Yasmani Grandal (LAD) 18% - The man has been hitting like a house on fire since he came off the disabled list. He was batting .385 entering Wednesday's game action. Maybe people didn't hear that he's back. That must explain his low ownership percentage. Let me try again. I'm getting my bullhorn out here: YASMANI GRANDAL IS OFF THE DL AND IS HEALTHY. There. I hope that works.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia (DET) 19% - Yes, Saltalamacchia has not covered himself in glory since he left Boston to sign a large contract with Miami. People may hold that implosion against him. But really? Under 20%? He's hitting .300 and he's hit five homers so far. That's up there with the league leaders. That's the most of all the catchers so far. Pick him up! Even if he falls, he's still a heck of a No. 2 catcher. If he keeps this up, it'll be hard for James McCann to claim the starting job again when he comes off the DL.
Francisco Cervelli (PIT) 38% - No, you didn't accidentally click on last week's picks. I'm really banging the drum here on Cervelli. He's hitting .333 as of Wednesday's games and he's still under 40%? Many of you are missing out here. Don't miss out. Add him. Don't make me bang the drum anymore. My neighbors are complaining from all the noise.
Wilson Ramos (WAS) 25% - I feel like a quote from Blanche Devereaux from "The Golden Girls" is appropriate here: "I'm stunned. I am just stunned." Ramos is hitting .312 and only a quarter of Fleaflicker owners have him? I think I need to lie down. I'm stunned. Before I go lay down, I suggest grabbing him as either a No. 1 catcher or a really good No. 2 catcher.
Stephen Vogt (OAK) 32% - Vogt seemed to come into his own in 2015, hitting 18 homers and driving in 71 runs. It seems like a lot of owners forgot this and have still not entirely sold themselves on him. His .277 batting average and two homers thus far are a very good start and he could really help as a No. 1 or No. 2.
Cameron Rupp (PHI) 3% - He's got nearly twice as many hits as Carlo Ruiz, and he's hitting a fairly decent .286. Here's a pretty good No. 2 catcher pick and so few people have him. Even this Mets fan thinks you should consider him and that's from someone who reacts like a vampire to garlic when he sees a Phillies player.
