Bundesliga Soccer - DFS Lineup Picks for FanDuel, Matchday 28 (5/27/20)

Vince Dray's FanDuel DFS lineup picks for Bundesliga soccer on 5/27/20, Matchday 27. His top daily fantasy soccer forwards, midfielders, defenders, goalkeepers.

Welcome back, RotoBallers! The first round of midweek Bundesliga games continues this week with a strong 5-game slate on Wednesday. Unlike Tuesday's slate, this one locks with the early game at 12:30 pm ET. It is surprising to see them include that game on the main slate, but DFS soccer players will take what they can get.  I'm excited to provide my DFS soccer picks on RotoBaller for this midweek slate!

With multiple soccer slates each week, it feels great to be back at the grind and I have been enjoying breaking down these slates for you, our loyal Rotoballer readers! If you want to chop it up with myself and other Rotoballer writers, consider becoming a premium member and joining our ever-growing community of DFS and fantasy sports enthusiasts!

In this article, I will be providing you with my Bundesliga daily fantasy soccer lineup picks for FanDuel on 5/27/20 for the slate that locks at 12:30 pm ET. Be sure to also check out our other DFS lineup picks for other active sports. You can always find me on Twitter @vdray5 if you have any questions. Good luck RotoBallers!

Bundesliga DFS Lineup Picks - Overview

Leipzig vs Hertha Berlin

Leipzig (-1.5) is by far the slate's largest favorite. Their attackers will be popular even on a normal-sized slate. Leipzig is the third-highest scoring team when playing at home this season, so getting multiple players into your lineup is a good strategy. The goal total over/under is also one of the highest on the slate at 3.0. Even though this is the early game, it will be a good match to target for both cash and GPP lobbies.

Fortuna Dusseldorf vs Schalke 04

On paper, this is a game that will not be difficult to avoid. Schalke (-0.0) attackers draw a decent matchup against a struggling Dusseldorf side, but Schalke is one of the lowest-scoring teams in the league. They have also been held scoreless in both of their first 2 games since play resumed. The goal total over/under is also a slate-low 2.0. Aside from defenders or a goalkeeper, there aren't going to be many recommended plays in this one.

Hoffenheim vs Koln

Like the previous game, we have another game on this slate with a 0.0 spread. However, this matchup between Koln and Hoffenheim will be much more entertaining in real life and for DFS purposes. Hoffenheim really struggles defensively at home (2.43 allowed/game), and Koln has a good enough attack to take advantage of that. Koln isn't great defensively on the road either (2.23 allowed/game). This game should be back and forth with plenty of action on both ends. The goal total over/under rivals that of the Leipzig game at 3.0.

Augsburg vs Paderborn

Augsburg (-0.5) are slight home favorites on Wednesday. Paderborn is in last place right now, so Augsburg should have the upper hand in this match. Some cheap exposure to Augsburg's attacking group can help you create some separation with your lineup on this slate. The goal total over/under is a modest 2.5.

Union Berlin vs Mainz

Both of these teams are sitting just above the relegation zone, so this will be an important game as the season starts to wind down. Union Berlin (-0.5) has the advantage at home, especially with the way Mainz struggles to defend on the road (most goals allowed on the road, 2.43 allowed/game). Like Augsburg, Union Berlin attackers will be affordable and can help you differentiate your lineup.

Now let's take a look at some of my top FanDuel DFS selections for the slate!

FanDuel DFS Forwards / Midfielders

Timo Werner ($23) will be an elite play on this slate. Leipzig is a big favorite at home, and he has the best anytime scoring odds on the slate at -200. There is definite brace potential with him on Wednesday. Yussuf Poulsen ($20) unfortunately picked up what might be a fairly severe injury over the weekend, so Marcel Sabitzer ($17) will slide in as the next Leipzig attacker with Patrick Schick ($14) looking like a possible cheap goal too. Christopher Nkunku ($16) is a decent play, but he has not been all that great lately. With Leipzig being the only large favorite on the slate, getting 2 or more of their attackers is recommended.

There is a trio of Koln attackers that have good matchups on Wednesday. Jhon Cordoba ($17), Mark Uth ($18), and Florian Kainz ($17) will lead Koln's attack against a weak Hoffenheim defense. They allow 2.43 goals per game at home. Fully stacking them is a little risky just given that they're on the road. However, on FanDuel where you should prioritize goal scorers, it's hard to ignore Cordoba and Uth on this slate. Cordoba is the team's leading scorer with 11 in the league this year, and he has +160 anytime scoring odds in this match. However, Uth is not far behind with 5 goals and +230 scoring odds. He also bests Cordoba in assists, shots on target, and crosses which could be worth another $1.

Sebastian Andersson ($16) has had a rough go of it lately, which should keep his ownership way down. He has the best scoring odds for anyone on the slate that doesn't play for Leipzig at +115. He also finally gets a good home matchup against Mainz who bleeds goals on the road.

Rouwen Hennings ($15) and Kenan Karaman ($16) are good GPP plays if you want to attack and Schalke defense that has allowed 7 goals in their last 2 games.  Florian Niederlechner ($16) can be that for Augsburg as they face Paderborn's poor defense.

FanDuel DFS Defenders

Defenders are where we're going to keep finding our value with the number of viable top-tier/mid-tier attackers with solid goal odds on this slate, which is a little unfortunate with several intriguing defenders to spend up for today. Philipp Max ($14) is one of them. His 7 goals and 5 assists this season are great for someone listed as a "defender" on FanDuel. He also has a stellar matchup this week at home against a weak Paderborn defense. Robert Skov ($15) and Christopher Trimmel ($14) should both also be able to do some attacking damage with good home matchups on Wednesday. Trimmel is in a better spot and has a safer floor, but Skov is more likely to score.

Leipzig will force Hertha defenders is plenty of defensive action in this game. It makes much more sense to find a cheaper defender like Jordan Torunarigha ($12) or Peter Pekarik ($11) who rely more on defensive stats than one of their more attacking defenders in this matchup.

The big defensive value on this slate could come from Paderborn if they do decide to start Laurent Jans ($7) or Christian Strohdiek ($8). Paderborn has been defending more than they've been attacking all season, and that will not change in this game on the road. Each of them needs only a few defensive stats to outscore their price tag.

FanDuel DFS Goalkeepers

Unlike yesterday, picking a goalkeeper on this slate is a little more straightforward. Peter Gulacsi ($15) is the best bet for both bonuses. Leipzig should win this game handily, and they likely won't concede at home either. You can save a few bucks and get Andreas Luthe ($13). A win bonus is likely here for him, plus his opponent Paderborn, don't more many goals away from home.  Florian Kastenmeier ($10) is a viable GK punt. I touched on Schalke's inability to score this season earlier. Sure, Dusseldorf isn't a great defensive team either, but he's the only other GK worth considering on this slate if you need someone cheaper.

Thanks for reading and good luck, RotoBallers!
