BALLER MOVE: Add in 12-Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 46% of leagues
ANALYSIS: Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Brady Singer began the 2021 season with two ugly starts. He allowed 10 runs (six earned) over 8.1 innings while suffering two straight losses to the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels. However, he bounced back in a big way this past Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays when he pitched six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out six.
Singer had a solid rookie year overall in 2020, posting a 4.06 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. This year so far, he's had the look of a much-improved pitcher, despite the high amount of runs allowed. His hard-hit rate is 32.5% so far this year, down from 40.1% last year. He's only allowed one barrel over 40 batted balls this year, good for a 2.5% barrel rate, much lower than his 4.5% clip last year. Meanwhile, his strikeout rate (26.6%) is up from last year (23.2%) and the average velocity on his primary pitch, his slider, is up from 93.3 mph in 2020 to 94.8 mph this year.
We're still waiting to see what kind of pitcher Singer will be in the Majors. Based on his minor league track record and high prospect pedigree, there's no doubting he has the potential to be a must-roster starting pitcher, it's just a question of whether he can get there and when that will happen. Don't miss out on adding him in case this is the year he takes that big step forward. He should be added in all leagues of 12 teams or deeper and he's worth roster consideration in more shallow leagues as well.
